Billboard Magazine's critics has picked "Beyonce" as Best Album of 2013.

They need to listen to more albums over at Billboard that's for sure. Its an alright album but its more of the same, but again that is opinions etc....

The thing that is really getting lost here is the fact that in every article written now i find the term "Game changing move", and again, to refresh everyone here, this is not game changing, im not puttin this move down, but "game changing" is when you actually do something out of the box, and this is not, also i have heard people say "she is sticking it to the majors" REALLY? cause they are collecting money on this, and they funded it, and she released it on a major. The Game is NOT going to change because of this, for ONE main reason, she is an extablished artist when she did this, also she did this while she is still a HUGE mainstream person, she didnt do this after living on an island for a decade and NO ONE speaking her name and then boom did this on a "indie" label and funded it with her own $$$.

SO People do not confuse it, all this "event" proved was that a person can sell a record without being HYPED up the ass for months with singles and videos, she just did it all in one shot.

it's billboard their choices are made on sales not on the quality of the music..

Don't forget that the artist that made this the first was David Bowie with his astonishing comeback early this year. Not Kanyes or Jays. Just Bowie. biggrin

I thought Bowie released a single without notice, announced his album on his 66th birthday and released 2 months later. The fact that he was working on an album was secret not the actual album. Beyonce one upped Bowie, the press release and album were released at the same time and same day.

Yeah there's a reason why Frank Ocean's album was critically acclaimed. I dare someone to pit the best lyrics on "Beyonce" to some Frank Ocean lyrics:

A tornado flew around my room before you came
Excuse the mess it made, it usually doesn't rain
In Southern California, much like Arizona
My eyes don't shed tears, but, boy, they bawl

When I'm thinkin' 'bout you
(Ooh, no, no, no)
I've been thinkin' 'bout you
(You know, know, know)
I've been thinkin' 'bout you
Do you think about me still?
Do ya, do ya?

Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh)

Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh)

Nope. Wrong. It's the Billboard critics list. Sales have absolutely nothing to do with it. Look at the list before you spout off.

In fact, Metacritic, which compiles reviews from critics from publications all over the US and elsewhere, has the album at 85% positive, or "universal acclaim"

The fact of the matter is that the album has been an astonishing critical and commercial success. I understand that this fact is hard for some people to swallow, but that doesn't make it any less true.

Beyonce has wiped the floor with every other pretender. She sold over 600k in THREE DAYS. Katy Perry and Gaga both sold less thank 300k in a full week, and Britney barely managed 100k.

I realize that haters have a hard time seeing things for what they are, and want to cling to their negative views, but that's totally irrelevent. Beyonce doesn't give a fuck and neither do the more than a million in the US alone who have already bought the album.

Praise God for Starbucks or I would not have been able to get a physical copy yesterday. The videos look so much stunning on my tv! I love the fact that I've tried to listen to other things since I bought the album from iTunes last week and I can only go back to her album. This album definitely moves up to the top of the list out of all her albums. It's like she's really focused and dedicated to her artistry much more these days and the Houston show I caught last week makes so much more sense now.

Attention WalMart Shoppers, Beyoncé is in the House! – Queen Bey Stops by with Gift Certificates

beyonce (walmart)

Beyoncé announces to Walmart customers that she’s in the house with $50 gift certificates

*Man oh man, Beyoncé is just full of surprises these days.

It was just last week that she shocked the world with the out of nowhere release of her now platinum “visual” album Beyonce

Well, Queen B’s newest surprise came Friday evening. She freaked out customers at a Walmart in Tewksbury, MA where she stopped by to pick up a copy of the Beyonce CD and give out $50 gift cards to 750 people. And if our math is correct, that’s a $37,500 value.

The store manager told Us Weekly, all the cards were enclosed within envelopes that read, “Happy Holidays from Beyoncé.”

“Beyonce just hit up wal mart and purchased everyone in the store $50 gift cards. Beyonce for president,” an Instagram user wrote with the photo.

The lucky store to get ambushed by the star is reportedly located in Tewksbury, Mass. Bey pushed her own cart around, grabbing a few items (including her new album) and got on the speaker system to greet customers and surprise them with their gift card. The store manager told Us Weekly, a total of 750 cards ($37,500 worth) were enclosed within envelopes that read, “Happy Holidays from Beyoncé.”

Her grand gesture comes a few days after Walmart’s competitor, Target, released a statement saying they wouldn’t carry Bey’s new album in stores.

tbh I don't care why they rated it so high .. I listened to it when it came out even more than once before judging..and no way this is an album worth 85/100 but I already gave to this crap album too much attention since it came out..critical acclaimed or not I have my ears to judge and those dreadful and sometimes offensive lyrics( that jay z verse gloryfing rape was the peak) were enough for not consider this worthy..have a nice chat over here.. wave

There is literally nothing that haters can say anymore that holds water. Critical success (85 on MC, the highest pop album of the year and higher than Yawnye's abortion of an album), commercial success (best debut by a female this year), 16 years into her career, and all with an album that didn't bother considering the charts or promotion, and has more personal depth than ever before FOR REAL. Nothing. Even that "more of the same" bullshit is just that - bullshit. Nothing on this album could be on her previous albums without clashing.

Really nothing mattered anyway because BEYONCÉ clearly never gave a fuck, and especially not now - she put "Bow Down" on the album as "***Flawless" BECAUSE of criticism, added an extra "bitch", made it the centerpiece of the record and THEN destroyed the criticism of the record in the first place. Such a beautiful "fuck y'all". I echo it.

I know that the digital revolution has and will steamroll industries out of existence, and people seem to can't wait for this to happen, but why should a brick-and-mortar store be thrilled to stock an album that the internet has willfully (because Beyonce issued it to iTunes first) undercut by a whole week? I know albums are falsely leaked (a dumb marketing move) all the time and once an album is released people can't wait to download it to the internet so everyone else can download it for free, but it still doesn't make sense for an actual store to be happy about stocking an album in which some of the potential sales are gone because the thing has streamed and been released a week or two before. Frank Ocean did the same thing. Target acted in the same way. But since we all live in this digital la-de-da, it just hastens the inevitable elimination of the cd. Truth be told Target most likely doesn't care considering they've shrunk their cd section to one row, which probably explains their actions more then anything.

Beyonce Physical CD: 14 Songs, 17 Videos, Not a Single Thank You or Acknowledgment

The surprise “Beyonce” album is a real physical CD. I received it this afternoon. It may not be in stores yet. But any minute now. Funny: wasn’t it last Friday that it was just a digital release? Seems to me the physical CD was already manufactured at that point. Sony couldn’t have produced and shipped it in three days!

Granted there isn’t much album art. “Beyonce” comes in a black matte box. The accompanying booklet has a bunch of artsy pictures, some “provocative” but nothing too shocking for Blue Ivy’s mom. The cover of the booklet is a black and white pic of Bey’s backside exposed, with a leather thong and some jewelry protecting it. Bey’s hands are on her hips.

There are no lyrics, however. And get this: no thanks to anyone, no shout outs, nada. Someone managed to produce 14 songs, 17 videos, and a bunch of photos. But Beyonce gets the only credit, as Executive Producer.

The song credits are in such small type that the writers and producers should be a little pissed off. The all caps white on black font is maybe 1 pt– far smaller than the phonebook. I can make out Pharrell and Justin Timberlake. This is someone’s way of saying, You guys don’t matter. Nice.

I tried using the flashlight on my Galaxy S3 but that didn’t help matters. A magnifying glass is my next option. But that won’t add the thanks that most artists annotate.

Also Beyonce’s name is on every song, whether she wrote it or not. But you know, since the mid 90s, it doesn’t matter who wrote the song. That ship has sailed. It’s all about who constructed it.

Hitsdaily double predicts another 200K this week of “Beyonce” downloads. Then a new wave of peeps who buy the physical CD on amazon and in stores. Except Target, because they’re mad.

"She's copying off Rihanna with "Drunk in Love"! Rihanna had a song called "Drunk on Love"!" Beyoncé is the reason Rihanna isn't working in a hut in Barbados and Beyoncé was on key throuought "Drunk in Love" so no.

"This is not an 85 album!" How much do YOU get paid for YOUR opinion? Okay.

"Nobody will remember this album in two years!" You've been bitching about Beyoncé since 2000.... mhm.

First of all the thank yous and full credits are on the website. If Roger Friedman's old, fired, disgraced ass could READ, he'd know that.

The physical CDs and DVDs began pressing as soon as the album was released on iTunes. That's how a leak was avoided. It's not exactly a long process to press multiple copies of media.

There's plenty of album art - an image for ever song.

Of course Beyoncé gets the only credit as Executive Producer. She guided the project creatively and she paid for it. That's what an executive producer DOES. Everyone else got their credits for writing, producing, playing, and singing.

The font is pink on black not white on black, blind ass. Like I said, he can't read.

Beyoncé's name is on every song because she wrote on every song. Mr. Friedman doesn't know anything about the process of this album because he doesn't know anything.

Not surprised that y'all would try and drum up the words of a man who's been hating on Beyoncé for ten years. Birds of a feather FLOP together.

This whole topic is funny as shit, because people are so starved for something to talk about, its actually sad. People now have a hard on because she handed out give cards in a mutlit billion dollar corporate company, shit does not impress me. Take homeless off the street or feed the hungry like others have done and not made it PR around a fucking record then we will talk. AND NO THIS IS NOT HATE TOWARDS her, i would say this about any artist that made a move like this, totally see through.

Next people are already coming up with this nonense...

"She didnt sell the most of all time in a week, because she didnt have a label behind her"

I swear that people today are dumber than fucking spit, she did have a label behind her, they funded every single move that was made, so get off this whole "game changing" hard on that you have. She isnt an indie artist, she is a corporate player.

As far as opinions on this album i dont really care, musically to me she is boring, her albums are very interchangeable like Mariah and all the other little pop females, not saying it sucks but it just isnt that good, its the same old song she has been singing since Bills Bills Bills and Crazy in Love.

As for the "Visual Album" when someone labels their new album that way, they are telling you what to look at more, just like you know when a band or group is over when they have something like this

"carless whisper" WHAM featuring George Michael, (band over)

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

[Video] Beyoncé Sends A Message To Target During Her Visit To Walmart

Target must not know ’bout Bey! She can get another you in a minute!

Now, we all know that Beyoncé used to love herself some Target but after the retailer vowed not to carry the queen’s latest album since she let iTunes sell it exclusively for a week, she decided to throw major shade yesterday by high-tailing it right on into Walmart!

Christmas came early for 700 Walmart shoppers in Tewksbury, Massachusetts as Beyoncé rolled in the store and announced she would be footing the first $50 of each shopper’s bill, which cost her about $37,500. She also strolled through the aisles, grabbed some gifts for Blue Ivy, kissed some babies and threw her own #1 album into the cart before checking out with a smile.

What makes all of this even funnier, is that despite Target’s decision to not carry her album in their stores, she’s selling the new LP in 7000 Starbucks across the country, and guess what?? Starbucks is located in most Targets! #BowDown

Meanwhile, she shared an image on her Instagram with her album on a table alongside of a Starbucks cup lmao.

Beyonce album Target
And did her fans sneak some copies on Target’s shelves to be funny or is this photo proof that one Target may have had a change of heart?

Also feeling some type of way over the singer’s rollout plan for her album is Amazon. The website has joined Target in not carrying Beyoncé. While fans can purchase the mp3 edition, physical copies are unavailable unless purchased by a third party.

With worldwide album sales at already 1 million, we’re sure Bey ain’t got no worries! According to Billboard, her LP will sell between 260,000-280,000 copies in its second week, which will place her at the top of the charts for the second week in a row.

who cares about TARGET its not even a music store, oh wait there are no music retailers anymore, all these stores MUSIC is an afterthought, Best Buy here in NYC has cut music down to one long shelf about 15 feet long, at the beginning of this year it was three of those, music is over. Target walmart best buy staples all these companies are going to be obsolete real soon, as online surpasses actual sales there is not going to be a need for any of them anymore.

CynicKill

Andrew Ridgeley opted out of celebrity life after his album wasn't well recieved and seems all the better for it. Just look at George Michael, who never met a public embarrassment he couldn't resist.

And that was exactly my point about Target. I'm sure there are sociological thesis on the ramifications of actual communities being replaced by virtual, online ones that people don't seem to care about because they've become enamored with convenience but I'll save that boring arguement for a different time. But you can hardly knock their survival instincts kicking in after an album was released and sold over a million copies before it even hits your shelves.

5 similarities that the Beyonce & janet. album share

Four and five are false.Janet was the highest paid female ARTIST during that period. Her music LABEL paid her. She did not get money from perfume lines, clothing lines, pepsi commericials, or endorsements and plus anyway MADONNA was the highest paid female artist this year so why is this advertisement saying Beyonce was when she wasn't? lol

Beyonce has ALWAYS had a sexy image this was nothing new for her on this album. She just took it to the next level by attempting to copy Rihanna and Lady Gaga because she wants to stay relevant. Janet on the otherhand was covered from HEAD TO TOE from Control through Rhythm Nation. So when she came back on the scene with a more sexier look for the JANET album it was something different for her. She was sexy but still tasteful. She did not half her ass hanging out. What kind of bullshit is this? The Janet album is also VERY eclectic musically and covers a wide range of genres. It is more mature LYRICALLY as well and is NO WHERE in the same conversation as that generic immature boring ass album. The JANET album covers a wide range of themes such as cheating spouse, depression, love, sex, etc. It does not JUST talk about sex and the lyrics about sex are more ARTISTIC and not just vulgar immature words with no meaning. Lastly, Janet did not have to use a gimmick to get her album to number one. Her song "Thats The Way Love Goes" was a number one hit around the world and was one of the longest running number ones of all time. The Janet album is also one of the biggest selling albums of all time with a handful of CLASSICS. I'm tired of people comparing overhyped/overrated Beyonce to legendary or iconic artists. If some like this album then fine... but dont sit up here and compare this album to anything Janet or MJ has done. Just STOP!

Yes because we all know Ike Turner as a rapist, not a woman-beater. Please. Did YOU read I, Tina? NOPE. If you had, you'd know that that rape scene in that silly movie didn't even happen.

That line is a reference to sex/oral sex anyway. Possibly a specific type.

And I just said you didn't HAVE a brain. It can't be "more than fine". YOU DON'T HAVE ONE. With your no-capitalizing-proper-nouns, not-spacing-after-periods, no-comma-using, run-on-sentence, ugly ass.

can you please just stop insulting my intelligence stupid asshole? That verse speaks for itself, everyone with a brain can elaborate on that, even if he didn't rape her he was a woman beater and using that verse was just insensitive on their part but of course you can't see that..goodbye
