I loaded it onto my iPod last week, but I just started playing it on Friday.
I'm still rockin' Elton John and Alice Smith because I'm going to see them Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. biggrin

One of the radio stations here has been plsying Christmas music for almost a month. The problem isn't that they are playing it- it's that they have such a ridiculously limited playlist. headache

The first one I played was:

I'm on my way to work at Barnes and Noble. I'm not sure what they'll have waiting for me.... music

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Here's two AWESOME Christmas CD's:

Natalie Cole "Holly and Ivy" and "David Foster's Christmas" On the latter, "The First Noel" by Bebe and Cece Winans is tear (joyful tears) inducing. Also noteworthy is Michael Crawford's "O Holy Night," another tear-jerker. Been playin' these two 4 years! Happy Holidays, y'all! xo

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I started pulling out Christmas music a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. But I still need to put my "Rat Pack Christmas" cd in the car. For now, the songs below have been on repeat on my phone:

OK here are my last 12 years worth of Xmas/ Holiday music compilations, that I made to play at parties, or while unwrapping presents. It came to pass that I have a really great love for Christmas music in all forms. For years I collected stuff, now I mostly look it up on Spotify & via nusic discovery services, I like looking at peoples' recommended lists and finding stuff from there.

So I would recommend seeking out any of these songs listed below, some are greater than others but they all had to fit my criteria of being family friendly, being generally positive (no songs about being bummed out/ angry at Xmas - they get their own compilation!) and being good musically, the kind of thing you could listen to every year. Most of these can be found on Youtube.

I love Christmas music & if anybody knows of good stuff in this vein, PLEASE bering it forward.

Have already sought out the Salsoul Orch & Booker T albums noted above. More like that PLEASE.

Ha ha.... I actually did make a special "family edition" that omitted that track at the end. Friends who were less likely to be offended got it as a "bonus track."

I do have three more discs worth of nasty ones like Clarence Carter's Back Door Santa, Insane Clown Posse and stuff like that.

Surprised to see the David Foster xmas album on here. It's a good album. My favs are the Natalie Cole song, Tom Jones' "Mary boy child", Vanessa Williams' "Go tell it to the mountain" and Johnny Mathis' "it's the most wonderful time of the year", which is about as timeless as it gets.

Kinda sad to see the Gary Glitter song not getting played anymore in the UK since his arrest and charges...Its a good xmas party song.

I also like that Bob Segar song. It's pretty obscure. James Brown fans should like that one! Its alot of fun and not what you would expect from him...

In the UK, I personally feel we have some of the best "always played ad nauseam" homegrown songs.

Namely:

Wizard "I wish it could be christmas everyday" (i.e "I wish I could be Phil Spector everyday")

Slade "Merry christmas everybody"

Wham "last christmas"

Band Aid "Let them know its christmas time"

John Lennon "Happy xmas (war is over)"

Shakin' Stevens "Merry christmas everyone"

Paul McCartney "Wonderful christmas time"

Do they play any of those songs overseas?

Fav albums include New Edition, Alexander O Neal, Jon Anderson's etc... Not too many albums really.

The charity album "A very special christmas" is very good though. Alot better than the more obscure equivilant by Warners called "Winter Warnerland", which still has some nice tunes too.

Iam a hige fan of his, but usually hate his covers. This one he gets right. The arrangement, whilst nothing special, suits his over-reaching singing style....

Their 6 track album from 1985 is chock full of squelchy 80's synths, and I love most of it.

NE regular's Vincent Bradley and Rick Timas produced "All I want for christmas (is my girl), and it's the best track on it in my opinion.

Interesting to note the foursome split up production and writing duties on the last 2 tracks. "The joy of christmas", by Ralph and Ricky, is much stronger than "Singing merry christmas" by Mike and Ronnie.
