Yes,an artist CAN take a break.Look at Justin Timberlake.He went away for several years and was still able to come back and sell a shitload of albums.Nobody really "took his place" while he was gone.Chris Brown clearly needs some time out of the spotlight,to deal with his demons and get himself together.Otherwise,he's gonna continue to self-destruct.

Demons? Could it be he's just an asshole? Some people aren't good people. What he did in that car to that young woman, says he is lowdown. (IMHO) If he didn't take a step back then to look at himself, I doubt it very much he'll have an epiphany anytime soon.

He is also the cau---ian persuasion! Which allows him special privileges, that artist like Chris will never have. So Chris will NEVER be able to take a lenthy break like Justin could.

First off, I maintain that Fine China > any uptempo R&B song that came out in 2012 & 2013.

Dude may need a break but there are other forces at work making an attempt to make things a lot worse for him. Example, the chick that said that CB went off on her at the scene of that car accident. When the footage appeared on youtube, we saw that it was a bunch of bull but people were quick to go in on him about "hitting another woman" when that was not the case at all. It was clear that she was trying to use his media-fueled troubles to collect a payday. That failed and she was exposed as a liar. Now we have this incident where there is no footage in an era of cameraphones everywhere. That makesd me raise an eyebrow. Only hearing one side of an incident also makes me cautious. It is well known that when the media paints a picture of someone and make it known that there is profit in co-signing that reflection of the image painted, there are a lot of efforts made to reinforce it; most of which are money motivated.

Not So Fine: Why Chris Brown’s ‘Fine China’ Video is Problematic

Upstanding citizen and all-around good guy Chris Brown’s latest offering ‘Fine China’ is, of course, free from any form of sexism, racism or general stereotyping. There is just the right amount of pelvic thrusting, and the choreography is completely original and not even remotely similar to that of Michael Jackson. (Is it too late for a belated April Fools gag?)

No matter what month it is, everything I’ve just said is a complete joke. (Yes I know, I’m very funny.) Though I doubt anyone reading this will be particularly surprised to learn that Mr Brown’s new video is completely and utterly offensive, I’m still going to have myself a nice little rant about the whole thing, and the numerous levels on which it deviates from the acceptable, not least the obscene amount of pelvic thrusting present at every turn.

Renowned theorist Edward Said’s essay ‘Orientalism’, in which he deals with the way in which the West perceives and negatively portrays the East in literature and the media, is easily recalled as one watches this video. Said notes that the East is often seen in Western media as the enemy; the oppressive, aggressive ‘other’, and this video embodies his theory completely.

This ghastly affair starts off in the somewhat futuristic family home of the pretty young Chinese woman Chris has set his sights on, and her stereotypically strict parents. As they sit at a table laden with sushi and green tea, the father informs her that she must stop seeing Brown. He tells her that “the leader of the Triad must live by a code, and as my daughter, so shall you.” So, just to clarify, he’s leader of a Chinese gang. Right. Her somewhat feeble protest of “You don’t even know him!” is met by the declaration that her new boyfriend a ‘thug’. Imagine! Calling Chris Brown a thug! So uncalled for, so cruel. Although, if I had a daughter who was dating Chris Brown, I may have somewhat broadened my vocabulary.

Chris then pulls up outside the house in his swanky car, and emerges to lean against it, contorting his face into the the most innocent, affectionate expression a girl could wish for. His unnamed love interest then runs down her driveway, into his arms and they drive off together. We then get these lyrics: ‘It’s alright I’m not dangerous/ When you’re mine I’ll be generous/ You’re irreplaceable/ Uncollectable/ Just like fine china.’ No Chris. Comparing a girl to a type of crockery due to her race isn’t okay.

He proceeds to a club, his ‘Fine China’ in tow, where he woos her further with excessive dance routines and high pitched screeches. He prances around in this way for several minutes, as she totters after him, until suddenly, an Asian gang bursts in, obviously sent by her father. Brown of course takes them all on and singlehandedly defeats them using martial arts (because they’re Asian you know). His lady friend, like the helpless little woman she is, stands back and allows Chris to do all the dirty work. Once he is surrounded by a pile of unconscious men, he sweeps her off her feet and they make to leave the club, after some further jiving from, you guessed it, Chris. Of course, upon exiting the club, they are confronted yet again by a larger gang of angry Asian men, this time lead by the father of his girlfriend. She walks over to her father upon his orders and is of course manhandled by his minions, where she weakly struggles. Not only is this feeble attempt to portray Asian culture as extremely oppressive, it is also lazy enough to stick to the damsel in distress theme, which is now, as it always has been, extremely boring. The video seeks to present the girl’s culture and family as anti-women when in reality the video itself is fiercely sexist. The female character is weak and submissive, her life controlled by the men in it.

Just as all looks hopeless and guns are pointed at our hero, an enormous gang of men (no Asians visible amongst them) emerge behind Chris, pointing weapons at the enemy. And then it ends.

The whole affair is reminiscent of innumerable Hollywood action movies in which the East is seen as the enemy; uncivilized, evil, callous men and beautiful, docile, victimized women. It all seems terribly outdated. Of course, I am awfully naive in that I tend to think that things of a blatantly racist, sexist, or problematic nature are awfully old-fashioned, when in fact they seem to be a key feature of modern Western society, as this video helpfully attests to.

I'm saying this as someone who is part Asian. And someone who has lots of friend who are Asian... thsi video is bullshit.

The Fine China video was directed by Sylvian White. Take it up with him.

The SONG Fine China is bad ass and nothing you can say can detract from that. I do not have a problem with the comparison to chinaware any more than I have an issue with D'Angelo's Brown Sugar or any of the many, many, many songs that have compared women in many ways to many things with the intent of praising them. Artists always make esoteic comparisons and the song is nothing but praise and could apply to any woman, not just Asian women. The video director made it so "on the nose-yet stereotypical" and I'm sure there was a little of You Rock My World playing in his head but the SONG is solid and I stand by that one.

People who don't like Chris Brown will find fault with everything about him. The song itself is not racist.

Its about facts. Like I said, people who hate Chris Brown will find fault with everything he does. MOst video concepts come from the video director. I'm sure the dance choreography is mostly Chris Brown's but if the video got awards, guess who would get the award? A: the director.

Rehab: Brown Threw Rock Through Mom's Car Window

A rehab center where Chris Brown voluntarily enrolled for treatment says the singer was discharged after throwing a rock through his mother's car window.

The letter from the facility was included in a probation report that was given to a Los Angeles judge and prosecutors Wednesday.

Superior Court Judge James Brandlin considered the report when he ordered Brown to spend three months in a residential treatment facility.

The rehab center is not identified in the letter, but it states that Brown threw the rock at his mother's car after a joint counseling session Nov. 10. The incident was a violation of an agreement the singer made to refrain from violence when he entered treatment.

Brown agreed to renewed treatment in court Wednesday.

Chris Brown is going back to rehab, this time with new rules from a judge.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin on Wednesday ordered Brown to serve three months in a residential treatment facility and to submit to drug testing. The judge also ordered the R&B singer to perform at least 24 hours of community labor per week.

Brown appeared in court for the first time since he was arrested last month on a misdemeanor assault charge in Washington, D.C. Since then, he voluntarily entered and left a rehab program for anger management.

Brown's attorney Mark Geragos said the terms imposed by the judge were recommended by probation officers and the singer has agreed to abide by them.

The Grammy-winner may still face a probation violation for the incident in Washington, however Brandlin ordered probation officials to gather additional details about the case and report back for a Dec. 16 hearing.

A 20-year-old man accused Brown of punching him after he tried to get in a photo with the singer. Brown denied to police that he hit the man but was charged with misdemeanor assault and is due to appear in court Monday.

Brandlin said Brown is allowed to travel for the hearing if necessary, but his ruling makes clear that the expectation for the singer for the next few months is to receive treatment and perform community labor such as graffiti removal or roadside cleanup.

Brown was ordered earlier this year to re-do 1,000 hours of community labor that are part of his sentence for felony assault in the 2009 beating of Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time.

The singer appeared in court Wednesday with his girlfriend Karrueche Tran and only spoke once to acknowledge he agreed to the terms imposed by the judge.

At Geragos' request, Brown was also ordered to take any medications his doctor prescribed.

When he left rehab, his rep said he was ”continuing his rehab program as an outpatient and is also completing his community service in the Los Angeles area.”

I hope the live-in rehab will help Chris resolve his issues once and for all because I would hate to see him behind bars! But I doubt that would ever happen. He is on the right path now...God bless him..

Chris Brown is in trouble ... again. The judge in the Rihanna beating case has just REVOKED his probation because of the fresh assault charges filed in Washington D.C.

Brown was in court for a progress hearing. The judge felt the criminal complaint in D.C. is enough proof that Chris did NOT obey all laws ... which he's required to do while on probation

The judge did not remand Chris into custody, because hizzoner was impressed by Chris' progress in his anger management rehab. The judge will hold a hearing on the matter in February, and it's possible he could sentence Chris to time in the pokey.

The judge also ordered Chris NOT to use medical marijuana for the time being.

TMZ broke the story ... Brown was popped in Oct. for felony assault -- later reduced to a misdemeanor -- and the L.A. County Probation Dept. launched an investigation.


We just got hold of the progress report (above) -- filed with the court -- from Chris' anger management program. According to the document, Brown participates in a weekly boot camp and successfully completed a 12-hour ropes course "to enhance team-building skills and trust."

The clinical team says Chris has been making progress and has new psychotropic drugs that seem to be working. He's been taken off medical marijuana. The team says his ability to "emotionally regulate himself" has markedly improved.
