Lorde & Haim: Finally, Some Good Pop

Both these acts are giving me hope for pop music - especially Lorde, who seems to have emerged overnight from another dimension. I hear Prince influences in both.

Mostly, I'm thrilled that there are still people in the music industry who are pushing through smart pop like this.

I can't stop playing it - almost reminds me of Martika or something!

hadn't thought about it about it that way, but yeah, I totally hear it! That's kind of sad that that's the new bar of quality lol

Such a dramatic rise to fame for Lorde. She's from my town in NZ. I first read about her in our local paper, the North Shore Times, about 6 months ago when she released her EP for free online. At that point she was completely unheard of, even in her home town.

My friend is her teacher at high school, which she still is enrolled at, but she hasn't been to class in a couple of months since Universal started jetsetting her around the globe.

I think she's brilliant. Her lyrics are beyond her years and especially unpretentious and relatable, which is really refreshing to hear at the top of the pop charts. Go girl!

Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

The best thing for me was when I heard the track I assumed she must be some under-the-radar upstart, only to find out she's already massive elsewhere and currently number 3 on the US Billboard chart! It makes me happy when real talent is recognized alongside the Mileys.

I love Haim. Discovered them when they were featured on Red Eye on Kid Cudi's Indicud album that was released not too long ago. I look forward to hearing more from the girls.

Maybe so but I'd rather hear Juice Newton over someone like Taylor Swift any day.

Lorde and Haim are great. I was Haim at Koko in May and going to see Lorde this Wednesday. 2013 has been a great year for new music. Try these too....
