Totally agree, it is admirable that they are drawing attention to causes they feel strongly about, and like you and me, why not...they have the same passions for these things that we do, and its better than doing nothing at all. But its not jealousy, its the assumption that we're not already getting involved or that our lives aren't already full to the hilt with this sort of stuff. My partner and I do volunteer in our spare time (won't bore you with details), and when I'm at a gig and a performer shouts out that we should get more involved I want to shout back "I already am". I guess when your musical hero lumps you in with all the lazy folks, it cheeses me off a bit! www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

NEWS/ Madonna Sparks Controversy (Again) by Posing With Guns After Navy Yard Shooting
by Lily Harrison
Has she gone too far this time? Just one day after the deadly Navy Yard shooting in Washington D.C., Madonna revealed a still shot from her upcoming short film which shows her aiming a gun at a body on the floor. And while the singer is known for constantly pushing the boundaries of decency, she's receiving tons of backlash for her latest stunt. The upcoming endeavor, which has been dubbed SecretProjectRevolution, is said to be released next week in its entirety. The scene also shows other bodies strewn around a living room, including one man who appears to be on top of a piano. Madonna is seen in a pair of fishnet tights, a black leotard and wearing a black leather glove as she clutches the revolver tightly. The film is codirected by the pop icon herself and famed photographer Steven Klein. According to the press release, the project is aiming to "further freedom of expression and protect persecution." Madonna also said in a statement in the release, "My goal is to show by the example ofSecretProjectRevolution my creative commitment to inspire change in the world through artistic expression. I hope my film and other submissions to Art For Freedom will be a call-to-action and give people a place to voice their own creative expression to help fight oppression, intolerance and complacency." And while some may call it art, others may be left with simply a bad taste in their mouths. Critics have panned Madge's decision to release a violent and graphic image in general, let alone so soon after the massacre that took place on Monday. But this isn't the first time that the Queen of Pop has sparked controversy with her use of handheld weapons. During last year's MDNA tour, she was highly criticized for her use of fake guns throughout the performance. Concertgoers panned the singer's decision to use fake guns, arguing that she helped in glorifying the use of weapons, after the Sandy Hook school and Colorado movie theater tragedies. In August of last year, Madonna responded to the criticism through a lengthy letter she called her manifesto. "My show/Is a journey/The journey of a soul from darkness to light/It is part cinematic musical theater/Part spectacle and sometimes intimate Performance art," the letter began. "I do not condone violence or the use of guns. Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging. In my case I want to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experienced throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken."

While not the greatest vocalist by any means (but who IS today?), Ms. Ciccone continues to be an internationally reknowned cultural icon by pushing buttons that no one else dares to or has dared to depress. Whatever she's cookin' up in that magick bag of hers will no doubt inspire and/or provoke others to follow in her "loving" lead. Muscially, may a deeper message ensue. Time will tell, as she has dabbled in some unusually bland (in the eyes of many, but not myself) formats over the past five years. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

The NYC events were public screenings. It was a fun gathering of people waiting for something to happen. A black van came guerilla style and projected the film while playing the audio from its speakers. There were douche-y cameramen on hand conducting "interviews" quite lazily. I was in one and I felt sort of like a bumbling fool as they put all their lights and cameras in ones face but did not ask any questions. It makes you wonder how effective these types of things can be when ineffective, lame people are involved.
NYPD had them lower the volume in the middle of the film at Madison Square Garden, they quickly jacked it back up once the fuzz walked away. MOMA staff appeared confused about the whole thing and not too pleased of fans and photogs hopping the fence.
All in all an interesting time. The film itself is quite beautiful and provocative. I especially enjoyed the "ballet dancer" and of course Madonna was Madonna.

Madonna's Art For Freedom project launches with prison dance filmThe singer moves on to heavy-handed video preaching artistic freedom. WARNING: one bad word and a lot of preaching
By: Malene Arpe Entertainment, Pop Culture Celebrity, Published on Tue Sep 24 2013
Monday night Madonna screened her Secret Project Revolution film guerrilla-style at locations all over the world, including here in Toronto where a crew reportedly set up at the Distillery District. Meanwhile, the website Art For Freedom, claims to be a “platform to give people around the world an opportunity to answer the question: what does freedom mean to you?” Madonna previously said of the film that, “My goal is to show by the example of secretprojectrevolution my creative commitment to inspire change in the world through artistic expression.” An alert viewer at the screening that took place in Berlin has uploaded the film to YouTube. The film, co-created withSteven Klein, runs 17 minutes and features Madonna playing both a prisoner and a jailer (and sometimes looking like Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS) being thrown into a cell, then shooting fellow decoratively draped prisoners. There’s some beautiful dancing and it’s all in black and white, which signals how SERIOUS she is about saving the world.
As the good-looking violence happens on the screen, Madonna says things like, “Democracy doesn’t seem to exist anymore. Freedom of expression sounds like a catch phrase” and “This will be the revolution of thinking for yourself. Of having your own opinion.” She lost me when she spat “burn, baby burn” and a baby stroller spontaneously caught fire. Madonna has been very vocal in, for example, her support of the members of Russia’s Pussy Riot and her heart is probably in the right place. Unfortunately, this comes across as a blend of well-meaning high school theatre, un-scintillating bondage and the camera lingering unrelentingly on, yes, Madonna. Towards the end, the film runs in reverse, making it look like she resurrects the prisoners she’d previously shot. Then she says, “I know what you're thinking: if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. (Spoiler alert: that isn’t what I was thinking at all, but thanks for the suggestion.) But it’s too late. I’m in the kitchen and the burners are on full blaze.” Oooooh. We’d better all be careful we don’t burn our fingers or that our baby carriages don’t get cooked. Madonna also tells the audience, “the revolution won’t be an app, won’t be available on the Internet” and then ends the film with the address for Art For Freedom. The film, which is a co-production with VICE, will be released today (Tuesday) to BitTorrent Bundle.

Wow. I think that's the best Madonna interview I have ever seen. She's so fucking smart and fearless.
I went to the screening at one of the LA projections (Hillhurst in Los Feliz). It was such a cool and bizarre experience. All these Madonna fans just waiting around the specified location, then the white van pulls up and projects the 17 min film on the side wall of a restuarant, then packs it up and on to the next location. Very cool guerrilla style of doing things.
