thoughts on Kelis' first album/Janelle Monae

I've heard things about the singer Kelis' first album "Kaleidoscope" and how it was this visionary, groundbreaking work of art. I listened to it recently and I can say that I kinda see what they were saying. I can imagine (the few) people who bought the album were probably losing their shit over it, in a good way. For those who experienced "Kaleidoscope" when it was still new, how would you compare it to Janelle Monae's latest record "The Electric Lady" (which I also heard and I think its killer) cool
