Natural Selection: "Do Anything" Wow - it was 22 years ago this week that Natural Selection had a Top-Ten hit with "Do Anything." Do you remember how much it sounded like Prince, especially since it sounded similar to Camille material like "Good Love" - a song for the 1988 "Bright Lights, Big City" movie? #1 Color Me Badd: "I Adore Mi Amor" (B+) #2 Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch: "Good Vibrations" (A+) #3 Boyz II Men: "Motownphilly" (A) #4 Mariah Carey: "Emotions" (A-) #5 Firehouse: "Love of a Lifetime" (C-) #6 C+C Music Factory: "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm..." (B+) #7 Michael Bolton: "Time, Love and Tenderness" (B-) #8 Natural Selection: "Do Anything" EW: A magical little funk-pop unicorn that eventually made it all the way to No. 2 before plunging into total obscurity. Go YouTube it right now, because it is pretty much the best Prince song Prince never wrote. (A+) #9 Bonnie Raitt: "Something to Talk About" (A-) #10 R.E.M.: "Shiny Happy People" (C+)

The female voice in Do Anything actually sounds a lot like the Carmen Electra bit in The Continental (and later Tell Me How U Wanna B Done) . . . both of which were released after the Natural Selection song. I'm sure they were recorded much earlier.
Great song.

The female voice is Niki Haris who's best known for being one of Madonna's back-up singers. Definitely a good song with a Prince-ly touch to it.

I always thought the female voice sounded like Ingrid Chavez

listenable enough. Sounds like "Good Love" if "Good Love" were a vinyl single, slowed from 45 to 331/3. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I'll bet the day will come when Prince finally cops to writting it. That one and Still A Thrill. There is no way in hell he dod not write these two songs, deny as people might.

You mean the Jody Watley song? Wasn't that written by Andre Cymone?

there are some people who insist that Prince also wrote TLC's "Waterfalls"

I was in junior high when that song hit, and that was the rumor. But I thought.. they are just influenced by Prince, as evidenced by their "Get It Up" and "If I Was Your Girlfriend" covers.

There's a Paul McCartney song "Waterfalls" from the 70s that TLC heavily borrowed from. * Here's a sample of Paul's lyrics: DON'T GO JUMPING WATERFALLS,

It is definitely closer to that lyric. Even "wa-ter-falls" is sung with a descending melody.
