Sacha Baron Cohen drops out of Freddie Mercury Film.

http://www.drfunkenberry....-bio-film/

When it was announced that Sacha Baron Cohen was going to play Queen front-man Freddie Mercury, I was intrigued. Sacha has dropped out of the movie and it kinda sucks!

Deadline.com broke the story saying that Cohen was dropping out due to creative differences.

The band wanted a PG version of the movie and Cohen wanted it to be a hard-hitting piece, especially covering his death from AIDS.

Who will replace Cohen in this film? An unknown?

As for things being a little more true to life when it comes to music film biographies, "Ray" about Ray Charles was not PG. It was PG-13. There was no nudity and I have a feeling that Cohen wanted to go all out and put it out there how Mercury really was. He wanted it to be true and not downplayed.-DocFB

Diagnosis: Really not sure who will play Mercury now. If anyone suggests Adam Lambert, I will not talk to you. Lambert is great playing with Queen but he is not Freddy and should not play him.

Well, this just fucked up my Tuesday! If they try to get a Timberlake or someone, gonna shave Brian May's head!

Why even do a watered down version of the man?

It makes no sense.

It's a bummer the band wants such a cleaned-up version of the story. It is 2013, afterall.

SBC would have been great (except for the fact the guy is a giant). Who now?

I just hope it won't be Johnny Depp.

The only person I know who could play Freddie is Freddie Mercury himself.

Johnny Depp playing Freddie Mercury? hmmm Although I love Depp, can't see him playing Freddie.

Besides that, how is it even possible to do a film on an extremely talented and legendary yet flamborant front man such as Freddie Mercury as PG? ohgoon Please. If that is the target then they might as well scrap the movie and do a documentary on his life instead.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

My guess is they're probably going for a younger crowd hence the PG rating. What a grave mistake! Why target a demographic that haven't a clue about the star of the movie? Now if they really want it to be a success, they need to go after Queen's fans first by making a "R" rated movie and show as best as possible, his life as he lived it. Considering his personality, that would be entertaining.

He was Indian.

He should be an Indian actor - preferably from the UK.

People neglect to highlight his ethnic origins, which I think should not be forgotten and is significant to the story of his life.

Sacha would've been great in this role. Johnny Depp - no way! I like Johnny, but let's face it, he hasn't made a good movie in years. He's been very disappointing IMO.

Well, technically Persian/ Iranian Indian wink . And I do agree Freddie's origins are too often forgotten.

It would make the most sense if they could cast a good actor who looked/ sounded like Freddie and who had a similar ethnic background, as it would give the actor's performance some insight into the world Freddie came from.

But then, look at Hollywood history - Russian Jewish American Kirk Douglas as the Dutch Van Gogh. Tho Kirk did vaguely resemble Vincent, that's about all one can say. lol

I believe Freddy was from Zanzibar in East Africa. Not Spain and he's certainly not Indian.

He was Indian, and spent some of his early life there. His name at birth was Farrokh Bulsara. He didn't advertise his Indian heritage much.

This reiterates my point why he should be played by an Indian!

Spain? East African?

My parents were born and grew up in Kenya - are of Indian decent and are definitely not black, just like I was born in the UK, but not white.

Freddie's parents were Parsis and Gujarati - you can't get more Indian than that.

His early influences were from Bollywood films and Hindi singers, which were key in shaping up his flamboyant style and iconic stage presence

This article should hopefully settle the confusing debate about Freddie's origins, as his family tell all - http://www.telegraph.co.u...itage.html
