Yep, yep !!!! My copy is on the way. Hopefully it will come today. Now, I hope they follow it up, with the other two albums. I know O'Bryan is probably not gonna be happy about this, considering the anthology he had in the works. But,the way his people had it set up, let's just say I prefer the route Expansion is going. Yeaaaaaa, O'bryan albums:-D.

The first BBC album

"New" Beatles Music May Be Coming In October

A cave that everyone figured had been fully mined may be ready to spring forth with even more jewels. Reports across the web say that a new set of Beatles performances on the BBC will be released in October.

According to the WogBlog, an internal release list from Universal Music shows an October 4 released date for Live at the BBC, Volume 2, a followup to the original 1994 album of recordings from the network.

The site also mentions that many of the Beatles' performances on the BBC were lost as the network regularly recorded over shows on tape as a cost cutting measure. It's unknown if this new set will be original BBC tapes or those that may have been recorded and archived by others.

The release may tie in with the new book The Beatles: The BBC Archives: 1962-1970, which will also be released in October. The author, Kevin Howlett, previously released The Beatles at the Beeb.

The Classic Albums special, “Pink Floyd: The Making Of Dark Side Of The Moon,” will see its release on Blu-ray on August 27.

Originally released in 2003, the program traces the creation of Pink Floyd’s iconic 1973 album, which went on to become one of the biggest selling records in music history.

Classic Albums features interviews with Pink Floyd band members Roger Waters, Richard Wright, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, engineer Alan Parsons, the late designer Storm Thorgerson, and others involved to unveil the creative process behind the project.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray include 40 minutes of additional footage not seen in the original 50-minute television version….including the following:

Brain Damage. A complete solo acoustic performance by Roger Waters together with his thoughts on the song.

Money. Roger Waters and Alan Parsons discuss the song, intercut with David Gilmour playing guitar and Roger Waters playing bass.

Us And Them. Richard Wright talks about writing the song and plays solo piano, along with excerpts from the full album track.

Breathe. A complete solo acoustic performance by David Gilmour.

Time. Roger Waters discusses the track followed by an excerpt from the animated video used at Pink Floyd concerts and Roger Waters original demo recording.

Gilmour's Guitars. David Gilmour illustrates the guitar parts from three tracks on the album: Breathe, The Great Gig In The Sky and Us And Them.

Originally released as a standard definition DVD, the Blu-ray edition is an upscaled version of the original material, with uncompressed stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound.

Whoo HOO! I'll be snaggin' up THIS 1! I remember driving a truck in Boston when "I'm Freaky" had just come out. I went 2 the record store, scooped it, came back 2 the truck, turned on the radio and the big newstory was that Karen Carpenter had passed away. I'll never forget that afternoon as long as I live. SO intensely disturbing and sad. On an UPnote, it's SO GOOD 2 finally see these remastered treats on CD for the first time comin' from the Capitol/EMI label! smile

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

glam rock box set

A five-disc box set celebrating the history of glam rock aims to tell the entire story of the movement through 91 tracks.

.

Oh Yes We Can Love: The History Of Glam Rock will be released by Universal on October 28 – but it contains much more than the usual suspects.

.

The label explains: “It isn’t just Bowie, Bolan and Gary Glitter – it explores a complete myriad of mutations from early origins in Chuck Berry and Little Richard to the contemporary evolution in The Darkness and Foxy Shazam, and everything in between.

.

“When Marc Bolan appeared on Top of the Pops in 1971, daubed in glitter, it permitted a generation of teenyboppers to begin playing with the idea of androgyny. It marked the dawning of a new era, a rejection of what had gone before.

.

“Arguably reaching its zenith in 1973 when the likes of Slade, Sweet and Suzi Quatro all had a run of chart-topping singles, the death-knell was eventually sounded by the rise of punk. Yet throughout the 80s and 90s and into the new millennium, bands have often drawn liberally from the lexicon of glam.”

.

The box includes a 100-page booklet containing rare single sleeves and trivia with an essay by rock journalist Barney Hoskyns, who wrote Glam! the definitive history of the era.

Man, if only that had the 12" remixes. It would be great if it had the epic-long Patrick Cowley mix of "I Fell Love" - the FULL 15:45 long version. They really should have included bonus discs from each album, featuring the alternative takes, extended remixes, etc. It's also interesting that "Try Me, I Know We Can Make it" is nearly 18 minutes long, and "Love to Love You Baby" is almost 17 minutes long. They included the edited, shorter versions for those too.

John Oates, the famously mustachioed half of the legendary blue-eyed soul duo Hall and Oates, once described their tenure at Atlantic Records as “three steps towards finding a sound. Whole Oats had a folksiness to it, Abandoned Luncheonette started combining acoustic folk with a little bit of funk, and War Babies was our more adventurous rock ‘n’ roll side.” He keenly observed of these early records with Daryl Hall that “the albums that followed drew on all of those elements.” So, when Hall and Oates began to score hits at RCA with 1976’s “Sara Smile,” Atlantic didn’t wish to be left out in the cold. In February 1977, the label issued No Goodbyes, a 10-track “best-of” drawing on all three Atlantic LPs and three previously unreleased recordings. No Goodbyes languished for years without a reissue. It was first superseded by Rhino’s 21-track The Atlantic Collection (1996) which contained all but one of its tracks (“Love You Like a Brother,” one of the three new songs). Then, “Love You” finally appeared on CD via Legacy’s indispensable 2009 box set Do What You Want, Be What You Are, and the entirety of the released Atlantic output was issued on Edsel’s 2011 The Atlantic Albums…Plus. But Wounded Bird Records is counting on some fans – and H&O completists – fondly remembering No Goodbyes. It’s bringing the original compilation to domestic CD for the first time on September 10.

.

In addition to its three unique tracks (“It’s Uncanny,” “Love You Like a Brother” and “I Want to Know You for a Long Time”), No Goodbyes reprises one track from the duo’s 1972 debut Whole Oats (“Lilly (Are You Happy)”), three from the 1973 classic Abandoned Luncheonette (“Las Vegas Turnaround (The Stewardess Song),” “She’s Gone” and “When the Morning Comes”) and another three from the 1974 Todd Rundgren-helmed War Babies (“’70s Scenario,” “Beanie G and the Rose Tattoo” and “Can’t Stop the Music (He Played It Much Too Long)”).

.

We’ll take a closer look after the jump! Plus: the full track listing with discography, and a pre-order link!

.

The selections on No Goodbyes are solid, although there are notable omissions such as the ironic Philly soul of “Fall in Philadelphia” and the folk-tinged “Goodnight and Goodmorning,” both from Whole Oats. “Lilly (Are You Happy)” likely was selected to represent that album as its R&B groove anticipates Hall and Oates’ refined blue-eyed soul of later years. Whole Oats‘ follow-up, Abandoned Luncheonette, is still one of the duo’s most beloved albums. It’s anchored by “She’s Gone,” which of course was included on No Goodbyes. Though it only placed at No. 60 when initially released (and edited) as a single, it scored when re-released by Atlantic three years later. The song reflects the team’s greatest strengths, with a stunning melody, a universal lyric, and a sophisticated arrangement. Add those impassioned vocals harmonizing as one, and it’s almost impossible to contemplate that the song wasn’t a hit from the get-go. (It did attract cover versions early on, however, including fine treatments from Lou Rawls and Tavares.) Almost as good is Hall’s “When the Morning Comes,” a slice of down-home R&B, and Oates’ atmospheric “Las Vegas Turnaround (The Stewardess Song).” Both of these appear on No Goodbyes.

.

War Babies, Hall and Oates’ third and final Atlantic LP, remains one of the most controversial albums in the H&O canon. It also is one of the most remarkable. Rundgren encouraged his old neighborhood pals to explore an experimental direction equal parts rock and soul. The most straightforward track is Oates’ “Can’t Stop the Music (He Played It Much Too Long),” a melodic slice of modern R&B that deserved a better fate on the singles chart. On the other end of the spectrum is Hall’s tough rocker “Beanie G and the Rose Tattoo.” It’s still a favorite of Hall and Rundgren, who have performed it live in recent years. But even the commercial-sounding “Can’t Stop the Music” was a dark observation of the seamier side of showbiz, and that theme echoed on the third track selected for No Goodbyes, “70s Scenario.” Almost immediately following the sessions with Rundgren, the team reunited with renowned producer/arranger Arif Mardin (Whole Oats and Abandoned Luncheonette) for No Goodbyes’ three new songs, but their Atlantic story was coming to an end.

.

For a glimpse at the rock ‘n soul ouevre of Daryl Hall and John Oates before music videos and “Maneater,” No Goodbyes is a reasonable and completely enjoyable introduction. Wounded Bird will reissue it, likely in the label’s typical bare-bones fashion, on September 30. It can be pre-ordered below.

Dust off your dance moves, break out your boombox, "Wild Style" is returning to shelves. Thirty years after the quintessential hip-hop culture film was released, a special anniversary collector's edition will be released this Fall.

And, as if the original appearances from the likes of Grandmaster Flash, the Rock Steady Crew and Cold Crush Brothers weren't satisfying enough, the new 2-disc DVD and digital releases will include some never-before-seen treasures for all long-time lovers of the epic era.

From an 48-page booklet penned by the director himself, Charlie Ahearn, to behind-the-scenes interviews with Fab 5 Freddy, lead actors (and on-screen love interests) Lee Quinones and Sandra Fabara (aka Lady Pink), and several others, the remastered version of the flick is now overflowing with even more tidbits on turntabling, freestyling, and b-boying and bonus shots of New York's boroughs, its graffiti-covered subways and nightclubs.

.

"Wild Style: 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition" is to be available on DVD and all digital platforms October 1.

Info
Limited edition collectors box van Donna met alle Casablanca albums...

Yeah, there was so much more they could have done with this set confused I won't be buying it.The box is nice,though...lol...wish I could buy the box separately, without the discs.

Yeah, they should've added all her albums (Self Titled, The Wanderer, etc.....), since Geffen and Casablanca are on the same team now. Also like the idea of adding a bonus disc of remixes, like you suggested.

I would detour that Love Fantasy cd. It's being put out by one of the worst reissue labels..........EVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Vinyl Masterpiece(when they state Vinyl Masterpiece, they really mean it). They don't use the mastertapes, they use the actual vinyl. And it's noticeable. But, it's up to you.

Nancy Wilson's 1980 Capitol swansong album, "Take My Love" drops 10/1 via Soumusic Records and The McCrarys 1980 & 1982 Capitol albums, "Just for You" and "All Night Music" drop as a twofer on 9/24 also courtesy of Soulmusic Records! The latter features the original "Any Ol' Sunday," recorded by Chaka Khan a year later on her "What'cha Gonna Do For Me" album and the American #4 R&B hit, "Love On A Summer Night." smile

Coming October 11 in Europe:

Diana Ross - Complete Motown Albums (23 cd box set).

Looks like this is a similar release to the upcoming donna Summer Casablanca box set. However, I don't know what albums will be included because Diana Ross did not record 23 albums for Motown, unless you count the countless greatest hits packages.

The set does include "Baby It's Me"and "Ross" (1978) which have been very hard to come by with "Ross"only ever released in Japan earlier this year. No idea if any bonus tracks will be included, but probably not.

70.99€ at the moment

They always ask ridiculous prices for the Japan import of this CD. I lucked up on a near-mint copy of the CD on discogs earlier this year for a little under $30 and I can't say this is one of their better albums. But, it's nice to see it finally receiving another remaster.
