Nona Hendryx Re-Wired at The Rendberg Theatre (7/12)

Nona Hendryx Re-Wired features a mix of new/unreleased works and older material composed and performed by Hendryx. “Busting Out,” “Why Should I Cry,” “Skindiver,” and “Can I Speak To You Before You Go To Hollywood?” are a few of the songs re-imagined and re-wired by Nona and 20 Electronic Production & Design students and faculty at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Nona uses the latest music technology equipment, including sensors developed by the students, as well as commercially available controllers. A robot (M.I.T)—a Mini Interactive Tutu—will also be a part of the show, performing a duet with Nona!

Wireless 'sound manipulation,' creating unique and strangely beautiful vocals, are controlled by a hand gestures. A wireless glove transmits signals that twist, turn, stretch and freeze Nona's soulful vocals over rhythmic and melodic backgrounds.

The show reflects Hendryx’s broad range of musical ideas and interests, from ambient, atmospheric work to funky, rhythm & blues influenced rock and pop.

Nona Hendryx Re-Wired will be one of the events of the summer! It's being performed in conjunction with the opening of our newest Gallery exhibit: Electric Summer, featuring the art of Ms. Hendryx and Gina Raphaela.

Wow, this is really cool! I love Nona and "Female Trouble" is perhaps my favorite CD of hers (especially because some songs involved Prince). Seeing this here makes me wish it was going to be on DVD, as I wouldn't be able to see it in person. I assume it's not touring, right? Still, this is something like you'd expect Grace Jones to do. Very avant garde. I hope there's a new CD in the future!

Nona released a very fine album last year, "Mutatis Mutandis", which proved she is still in the game. But, again, with like so many of our veteran artists, I don't think many people knew about it.
