Jill Scott Gives Details on Two Upcoming Albums

During Jill Scott‘s appearance at the 2013 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, we got a chance to pose a question to her about her upcoming music project. To our surprise, she’s got not only one, but two albums in the works.

Here are her comments:

''I’m doing two albums. One is the Lullaby album which is created with Little John Roberts who is currently on tour with Ne-Yo. He is one of the most amazing drummers I’ve come across. He’s just a really brilliant drummer, he’s also my son’s father. Also Robert Glasper who is an incredible musician as well as Derek Hodge on bass. Andre Harris as well, we did the record together in four days. I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun.''

''The record is intended to help you sleep. All the things you get fed about your life, your beauty, your capacity and your failure, all of that stuff you don’t have based on what you see on the television, the record is intended to deprogram you.''

''There’s a lot of true from the heart lyrics and I couldn’t write them until I was pregnant and understood live and love. That album will come out this year. The next record is a lot different from the Lullaby album. The Lullaby is for adults as well as infants, particularly all of those who have new babies and they aren’t sleeping. ''

''Turn the album up, walk out the room, let them learn how to go to sleep. With these words behind them and the lyrics that are meant to be encouraging and nurturing to the spirit. Not only will I believe that they will wake up feeling healthy and rested, but grown ups as well. The next record is slightly different. I don’t want to tell you the name of the record right now, but I am very proud of the record so far. 9th Wonder, Aaron Pierce, it’s so much I want to tell you, but I don’t want to give it away either, so you’ll have to just trust me.''

''It will be different on your ears because I can’t stay in the same place or I’ll die. I have to keep moving and I’m very excited about the next project.''

Sounds interesting. I'm familiar with 9th Wonder but not Aaron Pierce. Anybody familiar with his work?

There's an indie gutiarist/bassist named Aaron Pierce with an album on Bandcamp. I can't ascertain if it's the same person Jill mentioned.

"Who Is Jill Scott"... is a masterpiece. worship

I'm a huge fan of Ms. Scott but her subsequent albums haven't nearly been as exceptional as her debut. If Scott had come along during the 60',70's even the 80's, she could have surround herself with arrangers, musicians, and producers who could have assisted and pushed her grow, flush out her music and her sound. For the record I enjoy, "Beautiful Human Being" but her subsequent albums were hit and miss. Some songs should have met the chopping block and some songs should been developed more. I hope for this album Scott knocks down her song count to at least 10, 11 or 12 songs.

By the way, Ms. Scott will be performing at the Chicago Taste of Chicago, Sat. Unless you like pizza or hot dogs, bring you own food. I went to the "Taste" yesterday, the food was absolutely horrible.

This is my favorite one. I actually like the first 3 studio albums but her

last one didn't impress me at all to the point i didn't bother getting a copy

from my sister. Too bad about the food. I'm going to a festival in my hometown saturday with Musiq Soulchild and the SOS band.

Comeback with a review... unfortunately I won't be able to see Ms. Scott in concert. I pulled up "Beautiful Human Being today, not a weak song amongst the bunch. I'd like her to do more up-temp song from her forthcoming album.

Its been a minute since I'd been to Taste... the food and the selections were always excellent. I don't know but the tell-tale sign the food was foul, I saw very few people eating and walking. Hell, I saw more people walking around with a beer can in their hand than food. lol The only thing postive was they had a cover band the sung Chicago songs, they were great!

The show has been cancelled because of the anticipated rain. We have been getting rain damn near everyday for the past two weeks in the carolinas. It's been a lot of flooding too. They said it will be resheduled at a later date.
