Chaka Delays Anniversary CD and Concerts For Vocal Rest

http://www.huffingtonpost....97189.html

Feel for Chaka Khan. The acclamined singer has been forced to cancel four upcoming concerts and delay her album because of exhausted vocal cords. Chaka Khan Enterprises announced the disappointing news on Thursday via press release.

“Due to her doctor's orders, it's best that we move the date to give her the proper and adequate time to promote and market the new album," Tammy McCrary, Khan's manager, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to a great project and a very robust concert and tour schedule this fall."

Khan's album, "The iKhan Project," is now set for release in the fall. Per the press release, the 60-year-old singer was forced to cancel her June appearances in Columbia, MD (June 8), Pittsburgh, Penn. (June 9), Columbus, OH (June 14) and Toronto, Canada (June 18 and 19).

One event Khan won't miss despite the required vocal rest is at the Apollo Spring Gala in New...on June 10. Khan is being inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame that night; Erykah Badu is expected to present Khan with the honor

"I-Khan" was originally scheduled for a July 2nd release, to coincide with the first Rufus album, which was released in July 1973.

I knew it wasn't going to be released on time because she stated in her March interview with Billboard magazine that she still didn't have a distribution deal.

Meanwhile, she is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Ebony magazine (her very first cover on that magazine).

That's what I was afraid of confused it's very difficult for old school artists to get distribution deals,or any kind of record deal at all.Apparently, she recorded this album independently.I just hope she can find a way to get it out there. She also mentioned a jazz album and a few other albums of different genres.

but now that everything has been delayed, there is time to choose a stronger single to launch this project.I wasn't too crazy about the dance single "It's Not Over" .I know Chaka can do better than that.

I don't necessarily think getting a distribution deal is the problem. I think getting a distribution deal she WANTS is the issue. I know both Clive Davis and Tommy Mottola were after her when she left Warners in the 90's but she wasn't interested because she didn't want to deal with a major label any more. Chaka was ripped off for a lot of years (especially by Warner Brothers) and wasn't getting the kind of royalties she deserved. I know at one point she was battling them for her master tapes. I don't know what ever became of that. I think she's looking for a deal where she gets the most bread AND owns the master tapes. Don't think many labels are willing to do that, especially for a veteran artist.

Outrageous! sad Meanwhile, we've got all these "vets" who can "sang" their BUTTS OFF and they're the ones who are up against the droves of talentless "newbies" who suck in general. Go fig-ya, rite? :-O

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.
