Mariah Carey Exits ‘American Idol,’ Plans World Tour

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey and “American Idol” are parting ways. After one season, the pop diva has officially announced her exit from Fox’s singing competition.

Her PR rep made the announcement. “W/ global success of ‘#Beautiful’ (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol,” tweeted PMK-BNC.

Mariah isn’t the only judge leaving the show. Randy Jackson previously announced his departure after 12 seasons and Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban are also rumored to be out. According to TMZ, Jennifer Lopez is in talks to return next season.

In addition to a world tour, Mariah is also working on a new album, due this summer. The first single “#Beautiful” featuring Miguel is currently No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album will feature production from Jermaine Dupri, The-Dream, Rodney Jerkins, and more.

The Grammy-winning singer will celebrate Independence Day by performing at the “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular.” Hosted by her husband Nick Cannon, the two-hour show will air on July 4 at 8 p.m

The fact that all these lame wannabe talent shows are basing ratings on the "judges" and the talent takes backseat to the antics and BS crap shows that the public is even lamer than the shows, cancel all these fucking karoake shows

yeahthat nod When the entire judging panel, the executive producers, and the head of reality TV programming for FOX are all leaving at the same time (or being fired), you know the fecal matter has hit the fan. But while American Idol has some serious issues, they are being magnified by FOX's failure to launch any successful new shows. They had no viable replacements for 24 or House, they had huge flops with Lone Star and The Mob Doctor, Glee got old and muddled really quickly, shows like New Girl and The Following started out huge only to fall significantly, Terra Nova turned out to be an expensive dud, The X Factor gave underwhelming ratings, and the network relied way too heavily on Gordon Ramsay to fill in schedule holes. In other words, FOX created this problem years ago, but now that Idol is dropping significantly, the network is in panic mode. omg omfg

Lone Star was so awesome... I'll never forgive Fox for killing it.

In other words, she wasn't asked to come back. The tour announcement draws attention from her lifeless performance as a judge and, above all, it offers her a chance to save face.

It's official now. The executive producers of American Idol, Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick, were fired from the show by FOX. Looks like they are cleaning house. brick

I find it so bizarre that they finally get a REAL singer to serve as an Idol judge and the place goes haywire. I don't understand. Yet, they'll bring on talentless vocalists like Minaaj and Lopez and even more oddly, Ellen Degeneres (Sorry. I know I misspelled her name.) At least Paula has a voice that's unmistakable and she can hold her own (pitch.) Lopez can't sing 2 save her life in MY opinion.

One would think that on a show that scouts out vocal talent, that the prerequisite for said judge would include a successful back career (as Carey has and continues to have.)

It's becoming painfully apparent with each season (as of late) that Idol isn't about the contestants at all. It's about the judges and their inability to "work" effectively and/or cooperatively with one another.

Only a vocalist can criitique a vocalist. I always thought that Mariah's critiques were on point and helpful. Bet dem ratings would RISE if the producers were 2 extend offers to REAL singers like Beyonce, Natalie Cole, Peabo Bryson, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, etc...(to name a few.)

How about Aretha? Jeffrey Osbourne? Linda Ronstadt? (Mix it up. Some Nu School/some Old School.

sad

You spelled Ellen's name correctly (although you misspelled Minaj). But seriously, when has AI ever been about vocalists? I haven't watched in years, but unless it did a complete turnaround since the early days, it's never been about finding the best vocalist. I haven't seen any of The Voice, but isn't the very premise of that show that it's in direct contrast with AI because it puts the focus on vocals above all else?

Not to be rude but just honest, cancel the fucking show already, its done, NO ONE CARES about who wins them, they fall into the abyss of shitty production after they win, their music sucks right after it, and on the show all they are doing is karoake in front of judges that have almost no right to judge shit, cancel the show, its a done deal, why keep it on? becuase the winners sell? no they dont, last winner that sold was almost a decade ago
