As i said a few months back, Miami Vice knew how to use music, as a CHARACTER, no one really has "gotten it" since, easily the best choices were made for this show.

I love Jan Hammer, and his contributions to Miami Vice are legendary in my eyes! One of synthesizer's greatest heroes...

I agree...MV hasn't been matched. NYUC came close and I did love that show too. I loved how they always ended the show with a real star peforming at the club. But as far as theme songs and perfect soundtracks, I don't think anyone has come close to MV. That show had everything right.

As for character, Bob James' "Taxi" has a good NYC vibe, an I always enjoyed the instrumental closing-credits version of "Cheers".

Other fave's which imo fit a series are "Welcome Back Mr. Kotter", and "The Avengers" (strong percussive intro followed by a great orchestra).
