The B-sides Noel wrote for Oasis are superior to most acts' lead singles. That said, the last catchy Oasis album worthy of repeated listens was Heathen Chemistry. Regarding his solo debut album, which was replete with filler, I sang along to the singles, but I wasn't interested in buying it.

It's always interesting how opinions differ on music. I think HC is their weakest album. lol

Only a writer with uncountable rarely heard songs would make "Idler's Dream" a b-side. This lovely tune should have been included on HC.

The way i see it, "Standing on the shoulder of giants" and "Heathen Chemistry" are the weakest albums. Things picked a bit with the last two Oasis albums, his writing starting to mature a bit writing more meaningful lyrics, and developing Kinksy-like tunes. And then his solo album "High flying birds" was even better again, although admittedly still not quite as good as the first two Oasis albums...

Having said this how many artists can genuinely say they have returned to what their peak once was? yeah some get close like Bob Dylan with "Time Out of Mind" or "Love and Theft", but are those albums as good as "Highway 61" or Bringing it all Back Home"?, really?

We're here, might as well get into it.

N why the hell is Noel talkin bout jack in the first place??? Does Jack owe him a drink?

I'm not sure about Liam but I think that Noel has made peace with Damon/Blur:

I have never ever understood this accusation against Oasis, except in the case of about five songs. I just don't hear it. Unless writing a good song makes you a Beatles ripoff - beecause that's the only real similarity I hear.

I agree. As great as the Beatles were they never really played hard rock music like Oasis did and Noel's acoustic material isn't terribly similar to the Beatles either.

Lyrically there are quite a few allusions to the Beatles on Be Here Now but musically I just don't hear much of a direct influence.

Always thought Oasis sounded more like The Sex Pistols than The Beatles, personally.

I dunno, not really referring one song in particular, just the raw punkiness of the music and style of Liam's singing throughout "definately maybe" and it's b-sides (Headshrinker is a good example) reminds me quite a lot of the Sex Pistols, that's all.

First, Jack White has never claimed to be anything. He's just DONE whatever the hell he wants.

Second, Noel Gallagher is a twat.

End of.

"Live Forever" and "Supersonic " are two incredibly effective rock anthems. To this day, "Slide Away" and "Sad Song" evoke goosebumps. That album is Noel's masterstroke.

Oasis made good music. Sometimes they made great music. A couple of times they wrote timeless classics. They were good live, too. I saw them open for U2 on the Popmart tour to 40,000 people who didn't care and they won most of them over. But Noel and Liam are insufferable twats. End of.

We are getting a bit off topic but I don't think that anyone cares. wink

Regarding the quality of later Oasis albums, I think it has a lot to do with how "democratic" the band became after Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. I believe that, excluding covers, circa 1994-2001 Noel wrote every song, including the b-sides, except for "Little James," which was written by Liam. On the next three albums (Heathen Chemistry, Don't Believe the Truth and Dig Out Your Soul) Noel often wrote just over half of the songs with Liam, Gem and Andy each contributing at least one song per album. I'm sure that the rest of the band appreciated being able to get their songs on the albums but many of them just weren't very good. Had Noel hit a bit of a wall in coming up with enough songs to fill an album or did he genuinely feel that his bandmates had quality material to contribute?

Jack White? I like some of his stuff and don't dislike him but he is a bit overhyped by some people. I'm guessing that Noel doesn't necessarily have a problem directly with him but maybe he is a bit confused as to why he is as famous and critically lauded as he is?

So nobody likes/heard of Noels newer band High Flying Birds on here? Good stuff there.

This thread is kind of lame going on about Oasis. By your responses, I could swear some of you think they're still going. Wakey wakey.

Noel just likes taking the piss out of other bands honestly. I heard this quote where he said System Of A Down was the worst band ever... but he went in greater detail lol

He has also insulted The chili peppers, butthole surfers, phil collins, and strangely enough The Beatles. There are way more but i can't think of them off hand.

He has been quiet for awhile on the diss front luckily.

Because he's not a self-aggrandizing, insufferable twat. If he called Noel a bunch of names and talked shit about his music I'm sure he'd understand that. Fortunatly, Jack White doesn't behave like a petulant child. He just keeps doing his own thing, whether anybody else like it or not. And that includes Noel "I'm an insufferable twat" Gallagher.

No. Didn't forget. The "who?" was pure sarcasm. And that wasn't childish behavior, that was handling your business and being done with it. Some guy started a mess with Jack White so he whooped his ass. Further, he didn't talk about it, he just did it. Noel and Liam would have whined to anybody who would listen about what a loser that guy was for starting a mess with them for the next five years, while telling you how great they are in the process. lol

Truthfully, he did look a bit Zoro for a minute. But he didn't rock that look for very long.
