Janelle Monae has announced details of her new single, titled 'Q.U.E.E.N'.

The track, which features Erykah Badu, will be available via the singer's website at 7:54pm (EST) on April 22 and is the first song to be taken from her new album The Electric Lady. She posted the announcement as a GIF on her site.

Monae, who released her last studio album The ArchAndroid in 2010, previously said she had plans to release two albums in 2012 but neither materialized. At the time, she said: "I am happy to be here and see my family, and I am eager to get back into the studio and work on finishing my album. I stopped touring so I could finish the album. Actually, I plan on releasing two albums next year."

She also previously promised that her new album would see her move up "another level" and would boast "very strong concepts and bigger ideas".

Meanwhile, Miles Kane has recently revealed that he would love to record a duet with Janelle Monae. Speaking to NME, Kane responded to a question about who he would most like to work with by replying: "I'd love to do a duet with that bird Janelle Monae, I'd love to make a great two-and-a-half minute pop song with her. I haven't put the feelers out, but I could see us working well together."

I agree. archandroid was excellent, but now I'm waiting for something superb or classic, even.

My body is ready and prepared.

Am hoping she brings it. Most of Archandroid and parts of her EP can still get it.

How many people think Janelle is going to have a hard time doing 10 lp's in 10 years? Can Atlantic Records be open to her craziness? Will Badboy be? We are about to find out.

It really does like 5 years since her last project.

I think the song is really creative & I hope it finds a voice. Do you think Badboy cringes that they couldn't get something simple for the dancefloor? That string orchestration flip at the end, The musicians & producer really did put a nice spin on it.

^ Janelle has radio friendly songs as well thats not the issue.

Her problem is, she is not being promoted properly.

She seems comfortable with where she is at so I guess it doesnt matter. I would like to see her get more exposure though because shes so talented and it would be refreshing to hear some good music and see a new face for a change on the scene.

Based on my first listen: I like it.

Edit: Not too fond of it, if I'm honest. There are elements I really like and others which I don't.

It starts off well, and I like the later sound of the song in the last few minutes.

I'm not fond of the lyrics.

i like this better than anything i ever heard from her sounds like something erykah badu would write the voal arrangment has erykah badu written all over it. i hope this is her year she is awesome
