The Memphis Sound

I had the honor of being in Memphis over the weekend. Wow, what a mecca for rock and soul!

I'd never been to Beale Street. It's a musician's dream! You're never more than 10 steps from great live music. The street is blocked off for about 4 blocks, and it's a party.

So much great music was created in Mempis. We went to the Rock and Soul Hall of Fame, which was awesome. Then we toured the Gibson Guitar factory. Man, did I want to play every guitar they had! The Memphis factory is where they make the hollow-bodied electric guitars.

Then we went to the Stax Museum. So cool! My favorite musicians were Stax musicians, especially Steve Cropper. There was so much history there. And next door, they have a music academy and a school! It's a fantastic organization, and students from the school are right now performing at the White House, along with Sam Moore and Mavis Staples. http://www.whitehouse.gov...l-workshop

I didn't make it to Graceland but I will the next time I go. Same for Al Green's church.

Memphis rocks!

it would be nice to visit bb king restaurant if I ever get a chance to go. I was just watching the Isaac Hayes yet again last night and cant help to watch it as ive seen it 5 times during the season and one thing is for sure is that he made stax records. I am currently looking for his first album that was released in 1968 despite of them stating that it didnt go anywhere and the rest of the stax discography lps that I dont have. the albums that didnt go anywhere are usually the most interesting and I already have the barkays cold blooded lp from 1974 in which my uncle bought for me for $20 and how a former dj from new york told me "whatever you do, do not get rid of that album"
