New Video: Chris Brown – “Fine China”

Chris Brown Fine China TheLavaLizard

Wait, that’s not Rihanna’s in Chris Brown’s arms…

While chatting to MTV News about his new X album, Chris Brown stated that

the record was heavily influenced by the works of Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke and Michael Jackson. However, the video for the Diplo-produced lead single, “Fhine China”, draws closer to imitation than just inspiration.

Copying the ad-libs, mannerisms and even the signature exclamations for the late King of Pop, Brown basically recreates the Jackson’s work with a modern twist. Think I’m exaggerating or being overly analytical? Watch the video for “Fine China” below:

There comes a point in every artist’s career when he has to make his own path in the industry instead of emulating his inspirations. Yet, Brown still hasn’t fully grasped that level of understanding and “Fine China” proves that he found the “new sound” that he thought he created.

Still, that doesn’t mean that the “Fine China” song or video is a weak effort in any way. Brown is singing without much studio assistance and the music is quite catchy. Of course, the genius of Diplo’s production, which mixes Disco, R&B and a bit of Electro, was the real highlight. Well, other than Brown’s dance moves. “Fine China” is definitely a hit so let’s see what Brown does to promote it.

Its about gawd damn time he started making some R&B!

The track is hot. It has the elements of an old MJ track without sounding like it was lifted from "Off The Wall" in the process. Damn what that reviewer is talking about. Chris is finally stepping up to the plate and making some real R&B music instead of that pseudo techno crap they've been making him do to stay relevant with the tweenagers. If he keeps going in this direction, people will be saying Justin who?

Now the video is very "You Rock My World" without being exactly that. Its pretty damn close, though. That breakdance fight choreography was pretty well done. I like this one. Its better than any other POP R&B track out right now. That could all change next week or tomorrow but right now, this one is hot.

Identity

Hello R & B, farewell electro-pop.

The video is reminiscent of "Beat It" with a refreshingly contemporary twist. Chris channels his emotions and Michael Jackson with a passion we haven't heard for a long time. I dig it!

This is just a carbon copy?

Where's the originality (concerning the video)

I think it's somewhat of an improvement. The beat is alright. But I expected more instruments, sounds to come in. But it stayed really simple. I don't like his vocals either.

The song is a major improvement.

The story plot of the video is cheesy and boring.

But

Ughhhhhh he copies MJ WAYYYYYYYYY to much and he makes it soooooooo obvious!!!!!

He is a GREAT dancer........... However he tries to mimic MJs signature style of singing like the hollaring and the hiccups as well as the dancing... its just so contrived. While the choregraphy was entertaining, some of the movements were MJ moves. He needs to find a way to be inspired by MJ without it appearing like his copying him..... ALL THE TIME lol

Its almost like his a MJ tribute artist. All he does is copy his dancing and style of singing. Where is CB own idenity in that?

Even Usher did alot of MJ moves as well but he eventually broke out of that and came into his own artist. Chris Brown is still doing the kick, the throwing the hand in the hair, the hiccups etc... disbelief Talented dancer but I cant take him seriously as an artist and he cant sing.

If I want to watch Michael Jackson... then I'll I watch the real thing and not a poor carbon copy shrug

I haven't watched a chris brown video since I was 14 or something and I just watched this and I'm just like : what? neutral Why is he still copying MJ after all these years?! Isn't it time for him to find his own artistry?!... He sucks though, so I'm not surprised lol... I also hated the plot, it's so 1975...

I love the song and video. Both are VERY reminisent of Michael. However, Chris Brown has never made a secret of his love and admiration of Michael.

lol I just heard it this morning in my car and even before I heard Chris' voice my head was bobbing. I was sold on the groove alone. I ended up saying, "Damn, I like a Chris Brown song." I too haven't liked anything since Dueces and All Night.

I can rock with this though. The video is cliched but the dancing is cool.

BTW: Who is Roccstar & PK? I read that they were the producers of the track. I never heard of them.

As much as I can't stand this boy, this song is so good to me.

If this guy would just stay away from the press and papparatzo, he could be a huge music star again.
