I know I will be disappointed. H

e left it alone for so long that I am expecting something of a reinvention. But here he comes with same ol' Timbaland, "Suit And Tie" is boring to me, so I haven't even checked out "Mirrors".

I saw the CD in front of me for cheap and passed once already. lol He's gonna have to put out a single that is pressed into my ears, and then I will probably change my mind.

It's "Cry Me A River" 2.0 Cinny. You're not missing much. Timbaland practically uses the same drum pattern. Disappointing indeed.

I haven't heard it yet. I didn't listen to the alst one either.

Nothing against him, just not my kinda thing. I do kind of like him especially as SNL host. But I'm sure I'll hear some of it soon enough without having to make an effort.

The 2 singles are the worst tracks on the new material.

I don't get why they chose those songs. U?

Maybe he and his team thought those two songs were the most radio friendly and had the most commercial appeal.

Mirrors is the safe, obvious retread of his old stuff that they released because they knew people would eat it up. Suit & Tie? I don't even know. lol I think he just wanted to shock people with that one. I don't mind Suit & Tie, but I really really hate Mirrors. It uses the exact same format as Cry Me A River. Even down to the drum patterns. lol

You are doing yourself disservice.

Mirror is an uplifting poignant song of A= material.

Every artists should hope ot have Mirror in their catalogue to fall back on in concert etc.

lol Im just saying. Trust me Im shocked at myself for being a fan of this JT album but good music is good music.

I think folks are just jaded

It feels good to give it up to the punk ass bitch and not resist

integrity/black card/etc still intact

the whole album is great..not one bad song on there...and the good thing about it is its unapologetic about its rnb or disco roots rather....A+ album

whats wong with Mirro though? Its perfect pop

It just feels lazy and cheap to me. Yes, I can acknowledge a catchy pop song that's constructed for mass consumption. The problem for me is it doesn't show growth. Instead I hear stagnation. Stagnation leads me to boredom.

That's part of the problem. It's too formulaic, or Pop by the numbers. There's nothing wrong with having a radio hit, but don't regurgitate something and try to sell it to me like its a gourmet meal. lol

Maybe the rest of the record shows more growth, I don't know honestly I haven't listened to it. To quote Kerry Washington's character from the movie "Ray", "I'm still waiting to hear what the real Justin sounds like." His sound is engulfed in Timbaland's studio. Where's the distinction?

I think he played it safe with releasing "Mirrors". It continues with a sound that's already provided a hit for him.

I've heard the snippets of the album and wasn't impressed, so I won't be buying. I did, however, buy Suit & Tie...sorry but I do like that song boxed Jay-Z wasn't needed on the track at all, but to avoid WW4 on this thread, I will leave it at that. lol

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

He's a pop star. Growth? He isnt Radiohead. If anything, he did grow with this one as he took a few chances with the length and changeups in the songs and the style of them. There is NOTHING pop by numbers about this record. At all. And it's consistant as hell. Nobody in the recent years is seeing this record.

Of course listneing to snippets isnt going to get one into a record immediately. Come on now.

I was answering your question about the song, not the album. "Mirrors" is formulaic for him when the track and certain arrangements are from one of his first solo hits. I can't speak on the rest of the album.

So what is the deal? Is their no growth because he's not Radiohead or there is growth because he took chances? The change up thing was done on FS/LS was it not? I'm only asking because I haven't heard it yet.

There is growth but the way you were it seemd like you expect a radiohead like change of The Bends to OK Computer like growth. So yes, there is grwoth and chances taken on the record. At this time it's the record of the year so far. Yes it is only March but I dont see anything save for D'angelo surpassing this.

Mirrors may be derivative of his past as yall are saying but he took it higher.

How anyone cant like the song is beyond me. Its poignant, uplifting, loving etc. Meanwhile some of you are decrying it because it has the same drum pattern as Cry Me A River.

methinks some of yall are dead inside

Wow! eek When you say ROTY are saying the song, "Mirrors" or AOTY? Either way, I think you may be suffering symptoms from JT's hype machine. lol (By the way, his marketing promotional campaign has been smartly implemented. I give him and his team that.) Like you said, it's mad early in the year. However, considering how cozy he is with the academy, your probably right.
