Why do you think Goapele never blew up?

She can sing, is pretty, good performer-so what went wrong?

Nothing went wrong. The type music she does isn't mainstream...no autotune, no euroelectronica beats, and she doesn't sing about 50 ways to suck a dick or 50 ways for a guy to stick a dick in her.

IMO, she's in the same league as Amel Larriuex (though I like Amel more).

I dug Goapele's "Play" and "Break of Dawn" but I can't get into most of her stuff, although I do like her as an artist.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Identity

Two months ago I picked up Break of Dawn at an indie record shop in L.A. The instrumentation is nondescript, but she delivers soothing vocals.

Well Said!

nod

The more and more I think about the music industry and about why certain artists are not popular, the more I think it is this hidden contract that these artists have to make a choice with. They have to choose that or suffer for lack of commercial market or the machine backing. Its scary just thinking about it. I really dont think looks, "market image" and other things involved with the package has anything to do with why some of these artists are not as big. I think the reason is much deeper and has to do with what they are willing to do and not do in order to get that "machine" backing.

These artists evidently dont care about that.

I don't care for her much because every song she makes sounds the same.

I don't like her voice or her music. I find both 2b uninteresting and limited. I've tried a couple of her CD's a couple of times and sold 'em back 2 the CD store as used for some quick loot 2 buy other stuff I DO like. smile

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I agree. Her music is too ho-hum and uninteresting.

If you will, so will I
