Any jazz rock/ fusion recommendations?

I really like steely dan's/donald fagen's stuff, but going further than that, are there any other jazz rock/ fusion artists that are as good or better than them? I'm feeling like looking up new music today cool

medeski martin and wood

john scofield

they blend jazz, rock, and funk. it's most/all instrumental. the greatest fusion albums are by herbie hancock in the 70s, imo, although herbie's fusion is more funk than rock of course.

are you looking for stuff with vocals?

I'm a big fan of The Pat Metheny Group--it's hard to put them in one bag--a big mix of Jazz, Fusion, Folk,R&B, Rock, World Music, -even Drum n' Bass! Pat sat in with Donald Fagen on a few live appearances, and Donald and Walter have asked him to come play with Steely Dan-but he's always busy on his own projects...but anyway, Pat's a big Steely Dan Fan..Earth Wind and Fire too, for that matter....

...

The Pat Metheny Group - "To The End of the World"

The Pat Metheny Group -First Circle

The Pat Metheny Group - "The Roots of Coincidence"

Pat Metheny & Richard Bona - "Afternoon"

....

I'm pretty much looking for both vocal and instrumental, it doesn't really matter because either way, the instruments are doing the talking.

Sting & Gil Evans, Last Session is awesome. I highly recommend it.

Someone that novabrkr mentioned, who was at the forefront of the movement (Jazz-Rock Fusion or whatever you want to call it)...

...drummer Tony Williams. (RIP)

By 17 he had joined Miles Davis' "Second Great Quintet" and influenced a drumming style.

He then went on to form Tony Williams Lifetime in the late 60s and influenced the creation of a genre.

...Spectrum - from the album Emergency! (1969)

Tony Williams - drums

Larry Young - organ

John McLaughlin - guitar

A mid-70s version of the band...

...Fred - from the album Believe It (1975)

Tony Williams - drums

Allan Holdsworth - guitar

Alan Pasqua - keys

Tony Newton - bass

Besides those bands you listed, I heard a lot about this band in the 1980's:
