How would you rate India Arie as a singer?

She conveys alot of emotion in her singing and she tries to make her music relatable to regular people. She tries to motivate people to be comfortable in their own skin. She is her own artist and doesnt care about the glitter and glam and I respect her for that. She doesnt have the greatest voice in the world but she can sing.

You can't really appreciate her until you saw her live.

I saw her in concert a few months ago and she had

women screaming. Her music really is soul inspiring.

That's an interesting question because even though I really iiked her first two cds, it's not due to her singing; but the lyrics and music. Of course she's not a strong, powerful singer who stands out, but for her style, she's alright and I like her.

I think she's got a great voice, and I do like her first couple of albums. I find her hard to really love, though, since her music ultimately comes off as a bit bland and 'worthy'. I need a bit of dirt and grit and lust and desperation in my music, and for something sublime to come screaming through the speakers to stir me up and offer me a thin sliver of hope of redemption from the bleakness of it all. And I don't really get that from someone musing about how they're "thankful for relaxation" and sometimes a bit slack with their shaving routine. confused

I really enjoy her, and I find the texture of her voice warm, resonant.

lol That might be a little too much desperation! Mary sometimes sounds like a woman weeping in the middle of an emotional breakdown. bawl
