Fifty Shades of Elle Varner October 2012
Sitting in a booth at Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen just blocks away from the madness of Times Square I am simply in awe. The set of cover shoot for the soulful Elle Varner is full of light-hearted laughs as she turns up her inner model and commands attention. As the new R&B diva spices up the atmosphere with
Varner’s debut album Perfectly Imperfect has been on repeat for The First Daughter Malia Obama. In a recent interview First Lady Michelle Obama said after her daughter played the album for her she quickly acquired a few favorites.
“I couldn’t believe it. I thought at first it was just a rumor, but then I watched and it was definitely real,” says Varner in response to the shock of the news. “I was shocked but also proud that the White House approves my music for their precious daughters to listen to. I made an album that simply told my story, and that it could be appreciated by both a 14-year-old and her mother [is amazing].” Catering to multiple audiences is a trait that Elle Varner is well on her way to mastering, but she may also be the missing link to reviving an entire genre. Rhythm and Blues have definitely evolved over the years, but with the popularity of rap, some feel that it has taken a back seat. Elle acknowledges the “I think Rhythm and Blues is missing the “Blues” and that emotional hits-you-in-your-chest feeling that it was built on. The rhythms are there but the quality and content just aren’t what they used to be. Luckily, there are a lot of artists right now not only making great R&B, but getting some mainstream shine as
Varner is advocate about putting soul back into music and would love to do so with dream collaborations with artists like Frank Ocean and Luke James, it wouldn’t be a goal too far fetched. “I want to make a classic R&B collab like Marvin and Tammi Terrell,” says the soul singer.
Aside from her unique sound, Elle is also known for her unique style and proudly claims “FLYNESS” in her own lane, “My style is fun, unpredictable, and unique. I wear a lot of bows and glasses as accessories. The songstress defines “FLY” as “…the way you treat people, the things you say and do more than what you are wearing, driving, etc. It’s the love that surrounds you and the love you give.” Asked to give a heart-to-heart message to all her fans, Varner encourages them to “FLY”…literally.
“I would tell them first and foremost that I genuinely love and care for them and I would ask them how much they love themselves. I would want them to know that they are beautiful just they are and they can have/do/be ANYTHING they want no matter how big or “unrealistic”.. That’s exactly how I got here and it was by no means easy, but I never stopped believing in my dreams. If nothing else take that with them and FLY.” Beauty is definitely more than skin deep for this R&B legend-in-the- making. We look forward to more business ventures from Ms. Varner, maybe even a clothing line. In the meantime, Elle Varner is definitely fly girl approved.

Daley Release Alone Together EP Nov 2012
British singer/songwriter Daley released the visuals for his single “Remember Me” last month which featured fellow UK singer and The Voice UK judge Jessie J.
The super smooth soul singer who hails from Manchester, England has already been making waves and his phenomenal vocals have ensured that he is well and truly on the fast-track to becoming the new voice of UK soul.
He has just released his new Alone Together EP which is also the title of his single which features none other than the lovely Marsha Ambrosius .
The video for “Alone Together was released back in February and very well received. The 6-track EP is currently available for purchase on iTunes.
Track listing:
01. "Alone Together" Feat. Marsha Ambrosius 02. "Blame the World" 03. "Game Over" 04. "Remember Me" Feat. Jessie J (New Mix) 05. "Those Who Wait" 06. "Love is a Losing Game" (Acoustic)
Album Review (Asscoiated Press)
There’s something magnificent about Daley’s sweet tone — he coos on songs lightly, but it’s also demanding and emotional. That swag was all over his 2011 mixtape, Those Who Wait, which was top-notch from its opener to its closing number.
The English singer borrows three songs from that album for his six-song EP and major label offering, “Alone Together.” It’s short, sweet and satisfying.
The song that is propelling him to R&B fame, “Alone Together,” is soft and breezy. It features fellow English R&B singer Marsha Ambrosius, and their tones blend nicely on the track; sometimes you’ll forget who’s who.
He keeps up with the English-R&B theme by covering Amy Winehouse’s “Love Is a Losing Game” and collaborating with Jessie J over a hip-hop beat on “Remember Me.”
“Blame the World,” with its strings, is a winner, as is the feel-good “Game Over.”
The 23-year-old singer-songwriter — who has collaborated with the Gorillaz and received two nominations at this year’s Soul Train Awards — closes with “Those Who Wait,” a song about breaking through with lyrics like: “I’m waiting because I know I’m going to be next in line to claim my prize and be all that I want to be.”
You got that right. ..
