The One & Only Toni Braxton

Toni Braxton TheLavaLizard

Toni Braxton

In a time when most of current ruling generation of R&B and Pop stars put forward music that is as forgettable as their voices, there is one particular diva who is sorely missed on the charts. Possessing a one of a kind contralto, Toni Braxton is undoubtedly one of the industry’s most artists and Way Back Wednesday is about to remind you of that fact.

During the 1990s, Braxton carved her own lane with her unique tone, dark timbre and captivating stage presence. However, as a result of numerous financial problems and health issues, her success declined during the 200s and many young ‘music’ fans fail to recognise her enormous contributions to R&B, Pop and even Dance.

So, today’s Way Back Wednesday will showcase some of Braxton’s most popular videos and live performances to help the younger generation to appreciate her talent. Watch the diva, who has been praised by acts from Whitney Houston to Brandy, in action below:

What makes Braxton so special isn’t just her unbelievable voice – a rich tone like hers is literally one in a billion – but also her control of her vocal range. Most contraltos master their lower registers without ever going beyond their comfort zones. Yet, Braxton can match most sopranos with ease. In fact, she can sing as high as Beyonce in her head voice!

I honestly miss hearing new music from Braxton. This will sound awfully selfish but even if a new album fails to chart, I still want it for my personal listening pleasure. Until that time, vote in our new Way Back Wednesday poll below

I just never really thought she was special and her attitude is stank.

Oh lawd. lol

I really liked her music in the early nineties and like her

first 4 cd's but her music has taken a turn for the worst as of late

and you're right her attitude as of late seems to be uppity and stank.

I love her first 3 albums, after that it was mostly hit and miss though Libra had some solid songs. Other than music, I never knew she did so well in broadway/acting till recently. I have a lot of memories of enjoying her in my junior high and high school days

Love her 4 albums as well... then the wheels fell off. confused

With the hot mess she's put out of late, ol' girl needs to check the attitude. As we use to say back in the day, "she ain't all of that." two-snaps. lol

Wow, she looked a lot like her dad before she got a nose job!

Anyway, I saw her Vegas show at the Flamingo. I was impressed. She really gave a great show. She can sing live, play her instrument, and entertain. I'm a fan of her earlier tunes, as well as a few of her later cuts from Libra.

She's also known for her funky attitude, so meh on the other stuff. shrug

I love Toni... I am mostly a fan of her 90s material. I think someone posted a song she was working on and it didnt sound good. I dont know why these old singers try to chase after being relevant in a bad music era disbelief Just stick to being yourself!

Her last 'I heart you' was real good, its literally a hybrib of a 'secrets' era track, and completely modern

the melody, vocals on that track are classic Toni.

I love her music alot. Her personality not so much I think she can be a little snobby but her behind the music made me respect her more.
