I find "Not Even the King" appealing. I haven't given the other tracks a thorough listening, to be truthful.

Listened to the entire album...

"Girl On Fire" is essentially a 50 minute soliloquy about herself and her good relationship, of which no one else's compares. It's one of the most boring, self-centered albums I've heard in a long time. Apart from that, there are almost no musical surprises and Alicia's voice is weaker than ever.

Highlights are:

- "When It's All Over" (Good production and a strong chorus, both of which are rare on this album)

- "Limitedless" (The breezy reggae vibe managed to wake me from my coma)

The Maxwell duet was particularly disappointing. I don't doubt that it will do well on UAC radio but "Fire We Make" never seemed to take off and is missing something crucial (perhaps it's underwritten?). Sitting through the 5+ minute runtime was tough.

"Girl On Fire" is her dryest collection yet.

Actually, this new album doesn't sound so bad. It's definitely not on the level of her earlier stuff, but some of these songs are tolerable.

I like the track with Maxwell. C'mon, how often do you hear arrangements like that on modern R&B records? It's quite interesting to listen to and there's definitely a 70s / early-80s approach on that track.

I find it a bit strange that her vocals are placed so much louder in the mix though - it doesn't really sound like a duet due to it. Maybe it's just the way both artists like to have their voices placed in relation to the instruments on the background.

Always loved Alicia's music.

Then "No One" came out. HATED IT
Now "Girl is on fire" is out. Hate it even more.

Stop the screaming over loud beats Alicia.

This has been what has been so frustrating to me lately

with her output. It's like what has happened to her voice

and why is she choosing to sing over lethargic beats.

I tried 2 get thru this project.

The writing is bad, the production is bad, the singing is bad, the music is bad.

1 word: Painful.

I guess being a Prince fan I really shouldn't even bring this up but can I just say...I.don't.like.digipaks!! lol

Anyways the album is quite nice. These are highlights of the album imo.

Girl on Fire - original version is the best. Her vocals sound way off in Blue light version, and I'm just upset she decided to put Inferno version on the album. I mean come on. I don't even hate Nicki Minaj like most music lovers do because I think at times she can be kind of catchy but I just wish she could only stick to people who make similar music as her - so Eminem, Diddy, Drake, Lil Wayne. No more. Her rapping cheapened the entire track. Way to ruin a decent track Alicia!!

Tears Always Win, That's When I knew - She needs to do more songs like this. I know a lot of people don't like her singing but I personally think these songs can bring out that special something in her voice- sounds very natural and blunt.

Limitedness - This...is actually a classic Beyonce track lol I don't think Alicia's vocals really work for this type of songs. Pretty catchy though.

101 - Loved it at first listen but still can't say I like the ending.

Fire We Make <-- This is the bomb y'all! See she can do neo-soul and she does it wonderfully. I've listened to this track more than 10 times now. Perfect track from start to finish. Would love to see these two on stage together hopefully sometime soon.
The only song I don't like is New Day, this kind of overproduction really annoys me. There are some obvious bland songs but overall inspiring lyrics, lovely melody and I think it's better than Element of Freedom actually. thumbs up! Like!

HEY YO!

Man you serious? I listened to the album today as well on my way home from Uni and it is quite a decent album.

I don't think its her dryest collection of songs...

And I was listening to the track with Maxwell...When it came on I didnt know it was the Maxwell track so I was listening and got goose bumps listening to Alica singing all sultry and sexy and moaning n stuff... I was like this is def the track of the album then half way through the track Maxwell started singing and his voice was like butter...man soo awesome I actually replayed the track again just to hear those sexy vocals...

So I dont know where your coming from with this Album maybe you have a different version of the album to me.

Anyways that is my 2 cents.

On a side note why is there not a sticky for this release on this forum...sometimes we have stickys for album releases that are wack but Alicia dosent seem to get any love here.

Maybe its US thing......cos im sure she gets love here in Australia. smile

I still think that Alicia Keys is light years ahead of Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, etc music wise but Alcia true strengths was always doing the bluesy songs that suits her voice.

Her true raw vocal talent came out in the first two albums.

I have to agree. I liked her first song that made her name. She sounds really well singing bluesy-type songs, but I can't fault any artist for trying new sounds/directions. I think she just needs another type song like that to bring her back on top, like during her first year, when she won a few grammys. I think after that, many expected her followup albums to be as good as her first one. I think I have her second cd, but the package is still unopened.

The Girl on Fire album debuted at # 1, selling 159K units, the smallest of any of her previous albums.

The title track, which also served as the lead single, is such an unfortunate mess.
