I like Bruno.... a bit. He's an OK songwriter and an OK vocalist. But his best song isn't even on par with Prince's debut.

Also, he is part of a production team - The Smeezingtons. He does not produce all of his own stuff, on his own, as Prince does.

As long as Bruno keeps doing substandard saccharine songs for teenyboppers, he ain't gonna be taken seriously as an artist. When I saw him for the first time live, I didn't know who he was. I went to the show to see Janelle Monae, but Bruno was the main attraction for the mass attack of screaming pre-teen and teenage girls and their wincing, ear-plugging parents... razz lol Every time Bruno sang a song and I told myself--hey! I like this one--then he would launch into half a dozen paltry pop songs designed for star-struck teen girls...and guys (yeah, plenty of them, too!). lol

Unholyalliance	I don't think that Bruno Mars is anything like Prince at all. I find his music way more pleasurable to listen to. Imo, Bruno's influence stem more from Elvis and MJ. If you just mean that he plays some music instruments and dances I would find that to be a very superficial comparison.

He's very talented and he's more a young MJ (one of his biggest inspirations) than Prince. Then it's pretty obvious that he's a mixture of hawaii and early latino rockers, like Richie Valens and Elvis with James Brown.

You know . . . you may be right. Where we stand is where we sit on the "calendar." I think many (but not all) music fans who came up in the eras of Stevie, Jimi, Sly or Miles would laugh at Prince fans in the same way.

How ridiculous would that have looked at the time?

I don't see Bruno Mars as a "new Prince" because he doesn't have the track record, and they are different artists dealing with different circumstances at different times. And any artist chasing a musical career hould be allowed time and space to develop, and be judged on his own merits.

There have been many artists deserving of the kind of acclaim Prince has gotten in his career and some of these newer artists may wind up with impressive bodies of work in their prime.

And 20 years from now some kid on Bruno.Org may say the Next Thing is the closest thing to a new Bruno.

Bruno can easily cross over in today's market because his songs are easy on the ears. P at 78/9 was doing the standard " Black " music of the day, good stuff but stuck in that genre and not as complex or full like Mandrill, P Funk or Rick James. Obviously no one knew what was to come and here we all are here for a reason, I don't know if Bruno has a 1999 in his pocket or even much lauded band members like Wendy & Lisa that could steer him in such a direction but he is an honest talent. If P can be labeled as wearing his influences - JB, SLY, Santana and so on - on his sleeve, Bruno gets the same treatment .

Bruno Mars is a talented artist, but this notion that anybody could be a "new Prince" is just ridiculous. Bruno Mars is Bruno Mars, Prince is Prince. There will never be a "new" Prince. We already have Prince, we don't need a new one. Bruno Mars is doing just fine being Bruno Mars.

mancabdriver	He is one big piece of cheddar. How can you compare his lyrics to Prince? It’s as simplistic and unimaginative as a generic boy band song. He may be a good musician technically and has a good voice – but if you have nothing with substance to sing about then what’s the point?
