Mariah. She writes the majority of her own songs (usually all of the lyrics and some of the chords...Walter A. was there early on to help her come up with chord progressions for her lyrics/melodies), she's been able to evolve over time despite career-ending setbacks (Tommy's abuse/divorcing him, media breakdowns, etc), she usually remixes her songs a million different ways (often creating a whole new melody and adding lyrics), she really does produce and co-produce all of her music (and has been since her second album Emotions), and doesn't sound like a screaming cat when she walks onstage (and don't even come for her whistle tones, Minnie Riperton and Denise Williams did the same thing and I don't see people nitpicking).

I think a lot of this Mariah hate comes from the assumption that 1) being a pop artist means you aren't a real artist, and 2) if you're really girly/pretty then obviously you must not really be the one in control of your career because of course you must be stupid. rolleyes Being a girl, she's an inspiration to me. You don't have to be ugly and in the back just because you produce and write. That cliché needs to DIE a painful death. Chaka Khan is fab, but even other posters on this topic have said that her work with Rufus/Prince/other guys period is their favorite time. It's not a bad thing, but Chaka has always relied on the help of male artist-producers to help get her back to the top (a lot of her albums are under the radar except for the ones produced/written/arranged/everything by a guy). Mariah is substantially more than just a singer of other people's stuff.

And I give Chaka her due...I love her early stuff. But to imply that she's not as crazy as Mariah is delusional lol. She has had many nuts moments that have been documented on camera. But that in no way detracts from her artistry and the love everyone on The Org cleary has for her, and it shouldn't for Mariah either.

These two artists are wildly different and honestly shouldn't even be compared.

No contest whatsoever. What funk has Mariah Scarey EVER recorded. None whatsoever. If you ain't never made not even one ounce of funk ever, you ain't shit and don't even deserve a recording contract. Chaka Khan by 10,000 miles!

Not quite true. Mariah did do a cover version of Cherelle/Jam & Lewis' Didn't Mean To Turn You On. She even used THE same track as Cherelle's original:

I've heard it before. I don't consider it her's. I consider it Cherelle with Mariah Scarey catterwalling on top of it.

That's when most female artists' work is the best is when a man is in control. The men gave them hard funky music. When most women drop the men and take control themselves, they release boring albums full of ballads with no hard funky jams at all. There are exceptions though like Klymaxx and Madame X. Those ladies were in control and could throwdown just as hard as the men.

OK....

Mariah Carey needs these dumb ass rappers to prop her up. For what reason, who the hell knows. When Chaka "relied" on men, she put out amazing work. Mariah's reliance on these rappers has turned me off as a fan.

Oh yeah, CHAKA FREAKIN KHAN!!! lol

That is the most sexist thing I've ever heard.
