Songs you hate from your favourite artists that turned out to be huge hits

Very few of my favourite artists biggest hits are actually their best songs IMO.

These are just a few examples of my favourite artists having big hits which I dislike:

MJ - The Way You Make Me Feel I've never liked this song. It's aged far worse than the rest of MJ's 80s hits. The song is corny and sounds like a nursery rhyme.

Guns N Roses - Paradise City I'm a huge GNR fan and Appetite For Destruction is undisputedly a near-perfect rock album. So many great tracks, ironically the albums biggest hit is not one of them. The juvenile chorus irks me and it overstays its welcome by a good 2 minutes.

Prince - Kiss Just a shitty novelty record, really.

Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing They've done so many great ballads over the years that never get any airplay, and yet this OTT drool becomes their biggest hit.

What's wrong with that? I still listen to my kiddie records sometimes, never threw them away. biggrin

I also don't know why people put Diane Warren down, when performers have recorded her songs for decades.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I wouldn't use the word 'hate', but I'm not really a fan of these..

Prince - 1999

Michael Jackson - Thriller

The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand / Yellow Submarine / Penny Lane

Bruce Springsteen - Brilliant Disguise [not really a 'huge' hit, but it was pretty successful]

Peter Gabriel's Big Time. I got into him because of his use of world music in his songs. Big Time is too pop.

If it's a nursery rhyme and remember, he must have done something right, shamon! lol lol you know I'm just playing

I have no clue how madonna's turn up the radio did well on the dance charts, though I know it's no surprise she reached the top again. That song is the worst of her life, same with Celebration.

Cream - Prince

I didnt like more than half of the Bad singles at the time, including TWYMMF, Smooth Criminal, Dirty Diana, IJCSLY, and even Bad. I respect them now but usually skip them when they come up on the iPod.

Most of the Like A Virgin singles - Madonna. I think I only liked Dress You Up and Angel. I can't remember if Into The Groove came out before or after Like A Virgin but that song smoked all of her singles from that album IMO.

Alright, Because Of Love, Best Things In Life Are Free - Janet

Faith - George Michael. Still can't stand this song.

My All - Mariah. I'm not fan of this style of song, including the subsequent clones (After Tonight, I Only Wanted)

"That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Glory Day's is my least favorite single off Born In The U.S.A

Dancing On The Celiling.. i don't need to say anything

Die another day.. meh confused That song does not fit on American Life at all lol

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Terence trent d'arby- Wishing Well... This song is my least favorite on his debut. I adore him as a musician but this song is just meh to me

Van Halen- Dance The Night Away... They had a ton of hits & singles, and this song is just kind of a silly throwaway track to me. And the only track i skip on VHII yet it was a top 20 hit in 1979 eek lawd lol

Radiohead- Creep... This song just kind of annoys me, there first album in general is a very pale comparison to the great stuff on Kid A, Ok Computer & In Rainbows

R. Kelly- I'm A Flirt, Gotham City, Trapped In The Closet, Hotel... Just Horrible lol

Kanye West- Mercy.. lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

One of my favourites from VHII. I love the tapping in the chorus and it's just a brilliant, fun summer anthem.

I just can't dig the song, it seem's so filler to me. I can for sure see it as a summer anthem... but besides that could never get into it sadly.

I LOVE the Pet Shop Boys now. I've heard every single one of there albums and that's only since the Olympics lol I never got in to them before because the only song I had ever heard from them before hearing West End Girls at the Olympics was It's A Sin, which is still one of my least favorite songs in their discography

Of course you're just being silly, since how could they have known in advance that the title track would miss the top 10? I believe late 2002 in an interview she said it would be included on the album. I don't see how it's out of place, it fits perfectly with the also string-heavy "Easy Ride".

Regarding the subject matter, I'd pick "You'll See" & "Don't Tell Me" from her discography as in undeserving hits.

It reminds me of 'do the bartman' which I know was released a couple of years later - but it highlights how cheesy the chorus is.

the vocal delivery of the verses and video are class though.

"Holiday" - Madonna ('holiday' and 'celebrate' don't even rhyme!!)

"I Would Die 4 U" - Prince & the revolution (my least favorite song on PR)

"Lady Madonna," "Back In the USSR," "Get Back" - The Beatles

"She made me glad to be a man"

Tori Amos 'Professional Widow [armand's remix'

or whatever that remix is called.

What i hated even more than that remix being a huge hit is how they then put that

song onto the album.

Tori produced that record herself, probably still her best album to date (although,

personally i have a soft spot for Choirgirl Hotel). It's such a deep, organic and real

blood and bones album. And this remix sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'm quite sure the record company made her put it on the next pressing of her cd

because I can't imagine her chosing to scar that album in such a way.

Absolutely vile and horrible. No excuse. None.

Aye, it's shit, doesn't work on BFP at all. And the fact that In The Springtime Of His Voodoo was removed to make room for it when there was enough CD space left anyway to tag the remix on the end of the album after a minute or two of silence was even more shitty.

Yeah. I' ll never understand how it got bigger than Stranger in Moscow.

I don't like:

Prince - Adore, Kiss (even though I love the recent live version of it he played in Vienna two years ago)

Christina Aquilera - Dirty (yet I love the rest of the album, but I can't say she's my favourite artist. I just like Stripped and Back to Basics)
