Everyone knows that Nielsen ratings are about as reliable as reading tea leaves.wink

I can't wait to see Mimi on the judge's panel next season.

I tuned out long before Simone left....it got tiresome to me and has not been the same since the early days. All of these judge changes are attempts to spark interest and increase ratings.

I would have picked Aretha myself but sure MC will do fine. Out of all the other hopeful judges I would pick Charlie Sheen. I know he has no background in music but I would tune in just to see his off the wall remarks.

the show has been on a downward slide for years...she wont be able to save it....sorry but true...

I sorta agree with you here. nod I've been in love with Mariah since nearly the very beginning of her career love love2 mushy fallinluv , and I've been a huge fan of American Idol since around the second season. Having said that, Idol is definitely on a downward trajectory and has been ever since around season seven, when it was rumored that Simon Cowell wanted out of the show, but it really has gone downhill since season nine, when they added Ellen Degeneres as a judge. But what has really hurt Idol is the glut of other reality competition shows like The X Factor, The Voice, America's Got Talent, The Sing Off, Duets, Dancing With The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Hell's Kitchen, Master Chef, and all of the other knockoffs which have come and gone on network TV and cable. I watched the first couple of episodes of The X Factor but bailed on it since it looked like a weak imitation of Idol and AGT to me. The Voice was slightly better, and the rapport between the judges seems to be genuine, but they lost me once they moved beyond the audition rounds. Worse yet, these shows are not producing the huge pop stars they have created in the past, like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, and Katharine McPhee.

As much as I love Mariah, I'm more curious to see who she is paired with on the judges panel. Is she going to be working with Randy Jackson, Jimmy Iovine, or someone like wiil.i.am or a country star like Martina McBride or Miranda Lambert? I think that's even more cruical to the possible future success (or failure) of this show.

I think it's a smart move actually. The show still gets crazy ratings even tho it's falling short of previous seasons, and she could really use that exposure to help her sell records and finally beat that Beatles record she's been chasing. Her sales decline since 2005 is quite drastic and pretty embarrassing. Her last studio album was the biggest flop of her career, and it came out only a few years after Mimi, which was HUGE.

The only potential problem is that a lot of people don't like her, and they might REALLY dislike her if she doesn't check her tendency to turn every conversation back to Mariah. Maybe the chemistry with her buddy Randy will help her likability factor as well.

And let's face it: if the girl keeps shoving her thick body into tiny dresses every week, she's just going to make herself look ridiculous. If she wants to continue to dress like that, she needs to get 2008 skinny again, or she needs to let people dress her in a way that is flattering.

Mariah is doing Idol after Simon chose Britney over her. Simon also considered Janet over her.

Madonna's tour is not sold out. Her UK tour did not sell out, receieved extremely poor reviews - with people leaving half way through. She is relying on silly publicity stunts to keep the crowd entertained, because she has no talent.

Do I have to even mention Britney's last tour? Completely mimed, stiff & cut-back dancing, to the point where she just walks around the stage, pretending to sing.

Christina is doing The Voice because her last album flopped. Has she even got another coming out?

Beyonce's last album flopped. Didn't have one single hit. She's going to have to buy more of her own records and awards to stay relevant next time round.

Janet came off of a world tour, which was actually sold out. Even if the dates were mostly around 5,000 and it was of a lower quality than her previous. She is still dancing and preforming better than the rest of those ladies.

All the things you mentioned are smokescreens for failing careers lol

Just a day or so before being named the newest "American Idol" judge,Mariah Carey was hanging out with some of her biggest competition ... "X Factor" judge L.A. Reid.

Mimi and L.A. were spotted cruising around the Hamptons together this weekend and sources tell us he was key in convincing her to take the "Idol" gig.

Although they are now on rival TV shows, the music heavyweights go way back as Reid used to be the CEO of Mariah's record label.

At this rate, it won't be long before Mariah and Xtina are palling around town together. Or not.
lol

Daggg..... I can smell the wealth and affluence oozing out of these pictures!!!!

As for Mariah, I think this is cool..... but how intimidating would it be to stand up there and sing in front of Mariah Carey?

I don't mean to step into fan wars here, but Simon has actually been trying to get Mariah on board from day 1, according to him. but that said, he just released a nice statement congratulating her.

personally, I'm glad she chose Idol over X Factor because I like its format better, even though Mariah's going to be Mariah anywhere with her antics, bless her. lol

My GOD it's a love/hate thing with her for me. Check out the look on her face in those pics. ICK!! She comes off as sooo full of herself. To be likable, you kind of need to hide that shit.

PLUS horizontal patterns on her top AND skirt knowing she's built like a linebacker at the moment? Oh GURRL! disbelief

Mariah To Earn $18M for One Year

July 24, 2012

Carey tweeted her excitement, saying "It's gonna be so much fun working on American Idol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! – MC”

What do you call not having a hit in 11 years and having to perform in tiny venues (sometimes with less than 3,000 seats)? I love Janet more than any other artist but all the women in the post above are more relevant than she is.

I'm a big Janet fan too, but I would rather her do good music and movies over Nutrisystem. I do think she is past her prime numbers wise, but should still do movies (no more Tyler Perry, she needs something fresh) while she looks great and continue to tour, even with her brothers. If they want money, they should earn it with dignity (no pun intended) They have so much experience, living off michael is just lazy, and pathetic now that he's longer. If they tour, I support it and did so last month, if Latoya is doing a good job of being quirky on a reality show (and has the personality for it) I can't complain that she's in anyone's shadow and so forth.

I know she has had dance chart hits since All For You, and Call On Me at #1, but nobody is talking about that song anymore, 20 yo was the worst album of her career, and I absolutely do NOT agree with her signing that document, of all people, her, even if I have every single janet album and multiple singles from each project, and even if it was to have the family back away.

Let's get back on topic, I think Mariah is a good choice...and I do remember her being considered for years on these types of shows, never Janet, so let's stick to the facts, mmmkay?

Ryan Seacrest to Mariah Carey: 'You'll fit right in' at 'American Idol'

July 26, 2012

Link

Simon Cowell may think Mariah Carey is too "sweet" for the rigors of "American Idol" judging, but that's not Ryan Seacrest's take on it at all.

"I actually called her last night and I said, 'So welcome to the family,'" the "Idol" host, who is assisting NBC with its Olympic coverage, told TODAY's Matt Lauer in London Thursday. "I said, 'What are you going to be like on the show? She said, 'You know how I am: I'm very honest. I say what I'm thinking.' I said, 'Great. You'll fit right in.'"

Carey will be taking the seat of departed Jennifer Lopez, and Seacrest said, "We're sad to see her go." But the big question now is who will take over the chair once occupied so flamboyantly by Steven Tyler.

"I've heard rumors of Brad Paisley, I've heard rumors of Pink, I've heard rumors about all kinds of people. And the way that it works is we read about the rumors and about an hour before it's confirmed I get a call saying, 'Guess who's on the show.'"

Mariah Carey: The incredible shrinking 'American Idol' judge

mariah-carey-american-idol-official-photo.jpg

Mariah Carey in her official "American Idol" publicity shot, left;

an unretouched Mariah Carey in November 2011.

No doubt being an "American Idol" judge can be stressful, but Mariah Carey hasn't even started the jobyet, and she looks like she's already dropped 20 pounds ... and possibly lost some lower ribs and an internal organ or two in the process.

The official publicity shot released by Fox shows the diva in a skintight orange sequined dress silhouetted in front of a setting sun, one hand on what remains of her stomach, the other awkwardly resting just above her right breast — sort of a "who, me?" pose. What's striking, other than the obviously Photoshopped backdrop, is her preternaturally teeny waist.

For the record, "Idol," there's nothing wrong with Mariah Carey's natural figure, and we know this because of her penchant for wearing gowns a minimum of two sizes too small.

lol I love how almost every single female artist's name gets mention in this thread. Aww the Org never disappoints. falloff

Seriously, to me, for the longest time the only reality competition shows that had at least a majority of credible judges have been 'The Voice' and 'So You Think You Can Dance?' (pretty much all their judges are legit dancers/choreographers except for Nigel). I have a hard time watching a panel of judges with mediocre to no real talent judge hopefuls who have equal or more talent than they do....it's like watching a toothless man with poor fitting dentures judge a hot dog eating contest...I'd like to see that mofo try to talk shit about how slow u were eating. hmph!

This is the best judge casting I've seen in quite some time. It makes total sense to put Mariah on AI because, duh, she's a real singer and songwriter on a singing competition show. Personally, I think Britney would have been better cast as a judge on 'America's Got Talent' because it's not just a singing competition and like her 'abilites', many of those people's 'talents' are questionable; but Howard Stern has proven to be a good pick for that show so shrug . I guess I'll keep watching 'The Voice' and maybe tune in for some 'AI' this year. cool Just my twocents
