Which Band Do You Think Had Larry Graham's Best Bass Work?

Sly & The Famile Stone

Graham Central Station

Solo

With Prince or others..

I personally have to say Graham had his most aggresive & frantic playing!, the group may have had the social conscious lyrics of Sly & i think Sly was the overall better band. But Graham the bass stood out more & the licks where red hot cool

What do you guys & gals think?

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

For working with a band: Sly and the Family Stone. But, Larry honed his craft over the years and became even more proficient over time as a bass player IMO.

His playing with Sly was probably more widely influential & innovative esp at the time.....

but hard to deny the ridiculously awesome showmanship of GCS.

He's a force to be reckoned with in ANY band (or with NO BAND....lol)

My son, who is still teaching himself bass, was looking VERY closely at Larry's techniques when he was playing before and with Prince last year. wink

He's just...."ridiculous"....only word I can think of. I watch clips on YouTube of just him....wailing on it...and even the BEST bass players just shake their heads right along with me.

Amazing talent (his philosophizing aside).

He doesn't even NEED a band.... lol
