Funny thing D says he has an obsession (albeit unhealthy) of Marvin but from what I've seen, he's taking more chunks of Prince than Marvin...

They compare him to Marvin because you can hear that in his music and thats the primary influence that he mentions. I highly doubt D angelo was studying Prince 85 concert, not to mention even had the time to... The man is just gifted. His performance style is really not like Prince.. I dont see why some of yall feel that way. Is it because he can play alot of instruments? I hate when yall compare artists out now to Prince... D angelo is great artist standing alone.. just let it be like that.

I LOVE that guitar eek

C'mon, you know damn well why D gets compared to Prince. Besided him having Jesse Johnson in his band, and Eric Leeds playing saxophone for him a couple of weeks ago at Bonnaroo.

Listen to this version of Brown Sugar and tell me this isn't Lady Cab Driver.

It's not just because he uses falsetto and can play an instrument.

Having people that worked with him doesnt mean his trying to rip him off. And I was speaking on D as a performer and no him and Prince arent similiar. I definitly see he is inspired by Prince but I honestly dont see what the issue is. eek

I can also hear how Marvin has influenced him. I just think its ridiculous to say D angelo spent 12 years watching 80s concert footage of Prince neutral . Yes we get that Prince has inspired him but so have alot of other artists but maybe Im missing something, why are some of the P fans hating on D angelo? Because honestly yall should be happy there is an artist out now who writes, plays instruments and makes pretty good music whether his been influenced by Prince or not.

I'm not hating on D, he's one of my favorite artists and I'm happy to see him back. I'm saying it's ridiculous to say that he's not really that influenced by Prince when he clearly is.

Obviously, the statement about him watching Prince footage for 12 years is just a joke.

Exactly! I'm also not hating on him at all for his Prince influence. It enhances him. He still is his own artist. I remember when he first came out. Prince had to go check him out. Because he had heard so much about his influence on him & his dead on "Prince" falsetto & screams..I like Prince's influence more on D'angelo than Maxwell.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

The ticket prices were annouced before D performed on BET to be fair.

If D angelo performed close to me I wouldnt mine paying a 100 bucks to see him but thats just me, if it was priced any higher I probably wouldnt razz

We will have to see if they continue with these prices...

D'Angelo is not the only Cat that's been away from the stage and returning with high-priced tickets...Chris Tucker is coming to my town on August 4th..Do you know that Brotha's tickets start @ $90 dollars for the nose-bleed seats & $131 dollars for the best seats...

I love Chris Tucker and I know he's in debt and about to lose his Multi-Million-dollar pad in Florida but if Mo'nique's chep-seats are $45 how in the Hell is Chris asking for $90?

The Venue seats 5,000..I hope he gets a good crowd but the promoter is not doing his research on the cities he's taking Chris...

Chris owes a lot of money on his taxes. He didn't pay his taxes. He is not in debt...But does owe I think over 12 million in taxes. I'm sure he is on a payment plan now...I'm actually watching him in The Fifth Element now. a role that was first offered to PRINCE...

Found these 2 videos of D's performance @ the House of Blues.

excited Love these! I love how Jesse is working it too!!!

That said, I still can't say I would had paid $100 to see him. Definitely $50, maybe $75 (that's a big MAYBE. The most I've paid for a concert was $72 and that was to see Prince) but NOT $100. Sorry.

[Edited 7/8/12 13:48pm]

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
