Let's Discuss Irene Cara as A Singer

What a feeling was a mega hit and Irene has a pretty voice, but I think her acting skills were great too. Her roles in Fame, DC Cab and Sparkle were great. Im kinda torn-I think she did both well lol What cha think?

Who could forget when she almost married Rerun on "What's Happening"? lol.

Always liked her voice. "Fame" and "Flashdance" (the songs) are awesome.

Vocally, she always sounded very similiar to Donna Summer. She even used Donna's producer (Giorgio Moroder) on her 1983 What A Feeling album.

Irene has a very strong, expressive voice. She was it for a brief time in the early '80s. It's unfortunate her career was derailed like it was due to record company B.S. I've been meaning to get her 'Hot Caramel' CD from last year. I really liked the song I heard on Music Choice.

She faded away much too soon confused I barely heard anything about her after 1984.I know there were some drug problems.

I was wondering what happened to her eek Music industry struck again. I haven't heard that cd, but I would love to have a greatest hits cd from her.

She sued her record company for not paying her her royalties. And if that wasn't enough, I read she and David Geffen were "romantically involved" with the same guy. All this lead to years in court and some serious industry blackballing. An astounding 24 years between her most recent and previous albums.

eek Damn talking about being screwed by the industry. The royalties was enough, but the romantic involvement is some serious mess lol I kinda figured something terrible like being blackballed happened to her. Her career was at its highest and then she just dropped like a stone. Shit ain't right.

If a drug problem was the reason for not working, the entire entertainment industry would have shut down in the '80s.

I've always really liked Irene Cara, even would wear my hair like her when I was a kid lol Always thought she was so beautiful and talented. She should have been even bigger than she was, its terrible that she was blackballed in the industry. Well, at least she has 2 major iconic songs under her belt that are timeless classics. Another classic she did is "Anyone Can See", another one of my favorite songs by her

EDIT:

^the actual music video for the song. Gotta love those early 80s music videos!

I like her voice very much, never had the time to research why she fell off, but if it's true what ya'll are saying then it's a sad story.
