Did the buck toothed monster push Mary? eek I thought it was only a "mic toss". Any footage popcorn

Apparently, during the making of "Motown 25", when the surviving original Supremes and Cindy Birdsong agreed to reunite, the original plan was to do four songs together. Diana, who was sick with influenza at the time, said she thought she and the others "would be cool just doing 'Someday We'll Be Together'", which ironically enough, was a song Diana had never sung after she left the Supremes (though Mary Wilson, who wasn't on the original recording, still performed it onstage after she left the group). The Supremes actually didn't even rehearse their number like the others had done (even Marvin rehearsed) so they came real unprepared. Mary, who was then in good cahoots with Cindy at the time, told her that instead of staying in the background as they had done during the Ross years, they would move at the same time as Diana. I don't know if the push actually occurred as Mary said because from what I saw, she looked like she was high on cocaine ( eek ) and Diana might've moved in her direction bumping into her by accident. To make matters worse, producers had already decided that Diana should bring Berry Gordy to the audience and Mary Wilson was unaware of this apparently and decided to do it herself, Diana stopped her before she even did it whispering "it's been taken care of" and then proceeded to do it herself. The other Motown acts surrounded the stage as soon as Berry came to stop any further problems.

There's no footage of it to this day. It's alleged that footage may have been burned a long time ago. Same thing could've happened when Diana and Patti got into it (that was the mic toss incident) at Motown Returns to the Apollo in '85 when Diana took Patti's mic away from her for oversinging everyone else ( lol ). Someone else gave her a microphone and she was allowed to finish much to the chagrin of the others who had to try to wrestle their part in while Patti wailed (again). falloff

It's actually more funny than tragic. Just women acting a fool onstage. Nowadays Diana's so mellowed out she don't even tell anyone to turn their cameras off. eek Aretha's still feisty. But man, Patti... sad I saw some of her recent concert footage and I think girl's aging rapidly than Aretha and Diana. eek Now that's sad.

I love that footage falloff

Diane said "Help me somebody" and Patti eased on in like "You got it, bitch" evillol

Funny thing in Patti's interview, she acted like Diana was saying "help me Patti" and then it cut to Diana saying "help me somebody". I was like "this heifer..." lol Both of them were crazy then. lol

Like Kitbradley said, destroyed. But i read about it in Call her Miss Ross. Diana, Cindy and Mary stood together on stage, Diana took a few steps forward, Mary followed. Diana then took another step forward so that the other two would stand behind her again. Mary followed, then Diana pushed her.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see that!!!

You`ve read call her miss ross, Harle?

Yes I did nod It was an enjoyable read, but sometimes the text seemed like it came right out of a soap opera screenplay disbelief It didn't help that J. Randy Taraborrelli always come across like a stalking douchebag in interviews, which put me off from the rest of his work(even though I still intend to read his book about Liza Taylor).

You could tell Taraborrelli overembellished a lot about what he put in the book. That's what got Smokey Robinson pissed off... Mary Wilson's book seem more nicer to Diana than Taraborelli's did in contrast and even that seemed to bring criticism to Diana still. Mary said that she always wrote diary entries during her time with the Supremes, Berry Gordy used to call her for rehearsals and see her with her pen and paper and ask her "what are you doing?" Mary excused it as just writing. They had no idea what she would reveal.

Of course "Miss Ross" didn't address nothing in that book and presumably left it alone, which probably hurt her more than helped ironically.

Thing is, you could tell he idiolizes Miss Ross. Emphasis on "idiolizes" because I'm sure that IF Miss Ross read that shit, she would put a restraining order on that fool.

Which reminds me, didn't she file a lawsuit against him? Or was that somebody else? I'm sure I read that there was a bit of an altercation between them(I think it was the updated edition).

The discussion that took place backstage in the Hollywood Palace' performances with Berry Gordy's first wife stunned me disbelief lol

All I thought then was she would've picked her words wisely had it been Martha Reeves lol because Miss Reeves' hands were itching for Diane to say the wrong thing.

Diana didn't sue ANYONE. Not Mary, not J. Randy, not anyone. She just simply shrugged them off and move on. I don't know if she ever confronted anyone. In fact, when Mary Wilson tried to have contact with her after she okayed her doing Dreamgirls, apparently, after its release, Diana simply didn't return her phone calls and they didn't talk again for a number of years. In fact it took the death of Mary's son and her near car accident (which also stopped her ride with cocaine because she sobered up) for her and Diana to open communication again. Of course there was that reunion tour mess in 2000 that again made it seem like Diana and Mary were again bitter enemies though now that I think back about it, it was really ego with the both of them. Mary wanted fair share with Diana and felt she wasn't getting it. Of course their comments about the matter didn't help and it helped to damage the Return to Love tour and Diana's own career for a number of years (the tour caused her addiction to alcohol to increase leading to her arrest in Arizona two years later). But I do think now that things have quieted down that Diana and Mary still talk every now and then though obviously they're not as close as they presumably were during the early Supremes years.

Berry Gordy didn't even respect Diana no matter what she did to try to make him happy. Talking about "you look like a chicken in that thing". The more I read into Diana's background I think she was trying to see if Berry could've been the protector like her father wasn't allegedly (her father was indifferent to her choice of profession, he always wanted her to go to college like her sisters Barbara and Rita; Diana graduated from high school a semester early before turning 18 so she was smart). And every insult Berry hurled at her gave her flashbacks to how her father probably treated her which could explain her defiant attitude years later when she decided to take care of business herself. It's always harder on a black woman in entertainment than it is a white woman. You'll never get people writing 10 books on your conduct if you were Barbra Streisand. Madonna, of course, is a different story but still...

Oh absolutely.

But conduct or not, I think Diane loves the attention, by any means necessary(At least in her heyday). And if it took some wild altercation from her behalf to do it, mission accomplished.

But still, I agree to what you said. I def would welcome a book that focuses on her music for a change. Her body of work is more interesting than some of the artists who talked mess about her by miiiiles(I see you, Auntie Patti) and hell, for a so-called "limited" vocalist(I don't agree with that term btw, because EVERY human being has limitations) she sure knew how to work her instrument.

Yeah Diana actually knew her limitations and tried hard to match whatever she wanted to reach. Michael Masser kept talking about how she struggled with "Touch Me in the Morning" because she felt her vocals weren't good enough. Plus you have to remember she was put under a LOT of pressure, way more pressure than her Supremes band mates and anyone else in Motown because Berry Gordy put all of his work between 1967 and 1977 into Diana's career. She wasn't even a woman in control, she was a slave to Berry Gordy and it took her years to finally get off that plantation mentality even if she bumped heads along the way and ruffled feathers. But judging from her music, she definitely has a lot more gems. Patti unfortunately I can't say the same for her and to think she turned all those songs down... I'm miffed with that. neutral And she wonders why she ain't got the same accolades as Diana, Aretha, Tina or whoever. Well... look in the mirror, Ms. LaBelle, that's all I say about that. Of the Bluebelles, Nona Hendryx had more interesting material!

The only songs I could really associate with Barbra are "People", "Evergreen" and "The Way We Were". (To me the "Guilty" songs were more Bee Gees than her)

And what's sad about that is that the Supremes did a BETTER version of "People" and Gladys Knight did a better version of "The Way We Were".

The Way We Were is the only one I care for lol If I had my rathers I'll take Diana over Babs. At least Diana has kinda chilled in her old age lol Babs and her husband (Brolin) still on that Diva shit.

Babs has that "high class-Upper East Side" kind of ego

Diana seems to love some privacy/admiration...but I think she can be nice and warm...

Mariah actually looks like someone who would allow a male fan to touch her tits if she was drunk enough... lol hug

but they can't hold a handle to the sickening/scary egos of Patty and Aretha... barf

My friend DID! It was an accident as we had aisle seats to the Charmbracelet tour and she was entering the arena from the back. As my mate held his hand out to touch her arm her bodyguards flung his hands away in the wrong direction and he accidentally groped her tits! nod

I'm not a huge fan either, but she has accomplished an insane amount over her career.

Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, Tonys, the biggest selling female artist of all time
