I think doing that special was not a good idea. Obviously Michael wasn't ready and didn't wanna do it... of course it didn't help Whitney Houston either. sad

Nope. Just not a good time.

And on top of that, when Michael told Tommy Mottola that he was threatening to leave Sony, Tommy acted out and shut down everything that Invincible was about to be. That album would've took him through 3 years and it was promising to be even more massive than it was. Things really looked dim for Mike and it got even worse from there.

Well Mike was the cash cow, and about to become a free agent when all of this went down with his 'Invincible' album.

What do you mean by that? Michael had to damn spend money to get that album out there. Sony limited the promotion for Invincible. The momentum slowed for that album solely because of the media making Michael out to be this "mad man" for going out of a rampage about Tommy and what he was doing. Maybe it wasn't the smartest thing for Michael to do at that point, but it turned out to be all true in the end.

Not that I'm saying you're wrong, silverchild, but if he was blackballed as you say, how come he was still making top ten hits into 2001? hmmm

You gotta admit that by 2001 there had been a near 15 year media crusade to undermine his achievements and smear his character. His every movement was attacked, his music disparaged and he was reduced to nothing but a caricature which inevitably he was forced to become.

He was "strange", and so were his fans as far as the wider world was concerned. He was an object of ridicule with very few willing to understand what had happened to him and why.

And this was reflected at radio, particulary in the US by the mid nineties. He was still having hits pretty much everywhere else in the world but US radio tuned him out. And the UK "news" papers were especially hostile by that point, the only thing he was worth by then was a good ol' fashioned rubbernecking, uncooth species that we are.

They wanted him ruined and they got their wish. It became embarrassing to be a Michael Jackson fan. "Oh my God! You like HIM?!!"

His work still garnered sales and airplay but there had been a steady decline post Bad with "crazy" Michael stories taking precendence over any value his music may have had.

You've only gotta remind yourself of the shit that was said about him by many here on the org prior to his death to know that this is true.

Let me make this simple: Sony didn't want to see him go. His contract was up, and he wanted to go. They wasn't having it, so they gave hinm hell. The source: Micheal Jackson. Got it?

Sony was always giving him hell. In the end, it was at its breaking point. True, he wanted to go, but it was Michael who wanted an early exit from his contract. So, technically, it wasn't up.

Honestly, this wasn't just about an album or contract. This was about Michael wanting licensing from Sony.

Just watching Living With Michael Jackson here on Local TV suffering cause it's dubbed to make him look like a total idiot, sometimes wrongly translated and edited in a new way. It makes me wanna throw up. I just sent them a letter of complaint.

Sick, isn't it?

Could you guys help me? What does the mayor in Ghost say? The line I don't understand goes "Don't force us............ Because we will if we have to." What are the missing words?

I'm just gonna say this: kudos to Motown/Universal because they have preserved Mike's legacy far more better than others. We usually bat an eye to Motown's crazy history here on the org all the time, but what a bang-up job they have done!

- Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection

- Jackson 5 : I Want You Back! (The Unreleased Masters)

- Jackson 5 : Live at the Forum

- Jackson 5 : Looking Through The Windows/Skywriter/G.I.T.: Get It Together/Dancing Machine/Moving Violation reissues

I have a rare VHS tape of Jackson 5 concerts from 1970 and 1974. The 1974 segment is actually the Africa documentary that is currently trying to get the greeen light for release. So proud I have the entire thing.

But yes, tour videos will be nice at this point. They went all out for the Live at the Forum collection. razz
