Thanks to one of my close friends, we have an excellent audio recording of D’Angelo‘s first U.S. performance in 12 years! This morning at 12:15am central time, Questlove hosted the Bonnaroo Music Festival Superjam and the rest is history. Finally, the Soulquarians reunited after 12 years!

yeah...gon do that & I feel stoopid..this WAS a U.S. gig (Tennessee..duh)

I'm just flustered with desperation to get D's new joint & the prospect of *maybe* being able to actually attend a live gig close enough to home. The clips on YouTube of the French ones got me goin off..

nuts

Since no one has stated that they listened to it, I will. I did and it was GREAT!! He sounds comfortable with his voice and playful. The instrumentation was great, very Sly, perfect for a jam fest like Bonnaroo. This band is fire.

Im so jealous!! Shoulda bought that girls ticket and just went.... ah well!!! The audio is bangin quality too.

More Prince dick-ridin by Dangelo.

But at least he is appreciating and using seminal purple rock players.

Yeah - it's all a bit "and tonight I'm going to be Prince".

Does sound good though. I prefer this band to the line-up on his recent Europe tour.

Just for once, I wish Jesse could stop running around the stage like that doing somersaults. Way too exuberant.

excited Thanks for the clips!!!! Loved it!!!!

PS: I hate to be a party poop, but I do get what some folks are saying about D's "princely" performance. At one point I thought to myself (in a Wayne Brady moment) "Is D'Angelo the new Prince"? evillol I swear the last time I was this excited and yearned to see someone live in performance was back in '04 when Prince was all over the place in his royal glory. Now it's like he's bored2 But D has me excited bananadance party drink worship

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Great clips. D and his band seem to be in fine form. But we need to ease up on the "Prince-biting" hatred towards D.

To all us "purple people eaters" and "ol' school heads" we've already seen this. But to all of those young suburban 15 to 20 year old kids that know nothing about real R&B, this is all new to them.

I thought it was smart for him to do a classic rock set to move the crowd. They seemed to be really into it. No different from P doing "Creep" at Coachella a few years ago.

Great set. Big Shout to Kendra Foster-we see you, Brooklyn! One must remeber that Prince did not invent the Funk, he merely put his spin on it and did in the Minneapolois way. I think even Prince would agree that the Funk has many faces and influences. That s one reason why Prince plays covers at his show. To show respect and pay homage. UNBELIEVABLE set list. ?uestlove may be the greatest keeper of the Funk of this era. I am definitely going to Essence Fest to see this.

What's so special about these clips? Just sounds like a lame Prince-copying-James-Brown knock-off revue.
