Bobby Womack's brand new album, The Bravest Man In The Universe, is set for release on June 11.

Co-produced by Blur's Damon Albarn and XL Recordings' Richard Russell, the album was recorded late last year in Albarn's own Studio 13 in West London and also in New York.

The album is soul singer Womack's first LP of original material in 18 years, following 1994's Resurrection. The album will be released on the XL label.

Track listing:

'The Bravest Man In The Universe'
'Please Forgive My Heart'
'Deep River'
'Dayglo Reflection'
'Sweet Baby Mine'
'Stupid'
'If There Wasn't Something There'
'Love Is Gonna Lift You Up'
'Nothin' Can Save Ya'
'Jubilee'

Damon Albarn Gifted Bobby Womack With Unused Gorillaz Tracks

April 2012

Link

Soul man Bobby Womack is confident his comeback album will be a big hit - because it features tracks producer pal Damon Albarn was holding back for a Gorillaz project, which now may never happen.

The 68-year-old Across 110th Street singer returned to the studio with Albarn in 2011 for his first proper album in 18 years, and he admits he was more than impressed with the songs the British star brought to the table.

Womack, who joined Gorillaz for two tracks on what could be the band's final album Plastic Beach and then toured with the supergroup, tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I knew he (Albarn) was serious, because he was holding a lot of these songs for the Gorillaz's next album. He said, 'I'm giving you everything I got and more.'"

Albarn recently revealed he and bandmate Jamie Howlett had fallen out - and he feared there would be no more Gorillaz collaborations.

Meanwhile, Womack admits he thoroughly enjoyed recording with Albarn at his Studio 13 in London. He adds, "It reminds me of a little house. They have beds and showers - you don't have to leave."

Bobby remains hospitalized in an undisclosed location recovering from pneumonia, diabetes and cancer. I'm very worried about the brother, but I'm trying to stay optimistic.

False.

Womack has successfully undergone an operation to remove a tumour that turned out to be cancer free.

He is now simply recovering from his operation.

The news regarding cancer was announced early today. I know for a fact Womack was in the hospital for Pneumonia and diabetes-related illnesses as recently as last week.

Hmm...

He's still billed to perform in the concerts that he was set to perform at. Just a few days from now he'll come to the UK.

We'll see. Though I don't doubt he's been going through the ringer lately.

His recovery has been nothing short of remarkable, after such a very long hospitalization. Bouts of sickness have not, thankfully, derailed his touring plans.

Love me some Bobby Womack. I love the episode of Unsung that features him. Two of my fav Womack songs are "Woman's Gotta Have It" and the version of "No Matter How High I Get" that he did with Pattie Labelle. Damn good music.

For real y'all got to get the YT vid of him and Pattie. I swear they were married in song.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. rose

I don't think he did "No Matter How High" with Patti, it was another singer. I think Patti was originally tapped but couldn't due to a recording or performing issue. But they did real good with the three duets they did on Bobby's Duet II album especially "Love Has Finally Come at Last" (which is the song I think you were referring to).

The original song is from Wilton Fielder or somebody and it may not have been an official release with Pattie and Bobby but I know I've heard their version. I could have sworn the performance was on YT. Some concert or tribute thing they did.

I wonder if they performed the song at Richard Pryor's tribute concert in '92?

could be, I'm not sure. that's what I hate about YT vids. Often important details like date and event are left off when people upload live performances.

I see Bobby dyed his hair blond and paints his nails black lol (though I knew of the latter for a while since he showed these hands while the video of "Please Forgive My Heart" was playing, I loved how he did his hand signs btw). "Deep River" is nice.
