Ever since John called Black women Niggers & Disgusting in that Playboy article I could careless if he dropped off the face of the earth....

He is a PROUD racist and his music should be BANNED from all radio...

And ANYBODY that agrees with his comments in that article is also a Racist...

CynicKill

I think he said something about having a preference for white women after dating Keri Washington for a while and realizing that she was just as white girl crazy as any of the white girls he dated.

He tried to be edgy-funny by saying some stuff that many took as racist but it's obvious he wasn't serious.

His bimbo status and propensity to say stupid things was cemented long before this article.

But he can play the hell out of the guitar and can write a strong song when he really wants to.

Read the interview and judge for yourself, afterwards look at some popular forums and see the reaction. You can start here, go to Oh No They Didn't, Okayplayer, Lipstick Alley, Racialicious, etc....

One interesting thing that emerged is that JM had a large Black women fan base, which somewhat surprised me. The reactions reflect that.

BTW, he didn't date Kerry Washington (he said he liked her and Holly Robinson) nor did he call BW nigs either.

If a black actor NFL or NBA player says "I only date the sistah's" does that make him racist? I give the dude a pass. Just because somebody says something stupid, like we all have, doesn't make them a racist..and it really waters down the stigma of true racism when you group a guy like John Mayer in with people who peddle in hate.

Sit your sensitive ass down somewhere and enjoy this fantastic artist and his great music while you can.

Well he invoked the KKK and David Duke...so this wasn't merely about him stating his prefs. At what point does "true racism" begin and the faux end? lol

People choose to enjoy an artist or not to for various reasons....it's their choice and their opinion. It's just as valid as yours.

Well this is a big issue and was on the .org when it happend, now i would refrain from calling John a racist mainly because everyone calls everyone a racist these days and for some it fits but for some it doesnt, i would call John IGNORANT in his words, like i would call Prince ignorant when talking back in 2000 about his concerts, saying "people of color respect me" and "then you get the lighter persuausion that look at me funny" really ? for the record i would tell Prince first of all black and white arent even colors, so study up on that for the record, but i love Prince and i wouldnt call him racist i would call his speech Ignorant. Also i want to add NOT JUST FOR JOHN MAYER, but if you date out of your "race" it doesnt mean you arent a racist or close minded, im tired of hearing that this generation is more "open minded" about race when it thinks that being "open minded" is just about who you fuck, its not, alot still live in their bubble and are just as close minded now as the days of the 50's and 60's, some even have the ignorance in their own races.

I loved Continuum. Didnt really feel Battle.. at all...I remember listening to the whole thing and nothing clicked with me at all like Gravity or Waiting On The World To Change.

Hope this is better.

I liked Battle on first listen, but forgot about it pretty quick. " born and raised" sounds more mature to me. And you gotta love a song like this... love

So nice - me likey! It's very "Simon&Garfunkel" (that would be, Simon really). This and "Shapeshifter" - it's gonna be a kinda laid-back summer of listening.

As to John Mayer's "douchey-ness" - what I remember is his strange relationships with women. Wasn't he ranting about Jennifer Aniston to the paparazzi at some point? And Jessica Simpson - sexual NAPALM! Kinda weird...

It is weird! It's like he's a different person when i hear his music. Maybe he just doesn't know how to deal with the press and starts to say stupid things.

I'm pretty sure John Mayer disavowed social media (as he should have), so that first line reads a little weird.

Also, it SOUNDS like CS&N because Crosby and Nash are on the damn album. lol

Yes, he's definitely "speaking for me" with those lyrics!

Yes! From his songs, you'd think maybe he was introspective and really insightful about women and relationships (e.g., "Daughters"), but then it seems he's so shallow when it comes to women. Oh well, I guess lots of men are like that.

I am glad you put it out that he did not use the N word. The article and the controversy has taken a life of its own. With the public making it out to be worst than what it was.
