Damn RIP Chuck Brown

Go-Go music lives because of Chuck

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

man.. I'm sad again.

1st Junior Seau

then Adam "MCA" Yauch

now the GODFATHER OF GO-GO.

it's almost too much.

I lived in DC for about 14 years. when I 1st got there, I would hear this.. "jungle music" & I was like.. "what is this??

I really didn't like go-go at 1st. I just didn't feel it.

but then I went to my 1st go-go show. I think it was outdoors.. at 1 of those "taste of DC" foodfest-type things.. of course Chuck was there, & he turned it out.. & turned me on to go-go. I think he did that because he is an accomplished musician, particularly adept at jazz & blues. he put go-go on the map. I know there's EU & Trouble Funk & a handful of other influencial go-go bands.. but Chuck Brown was the 1. THE ONE.

those go-go shows.. he would just play for HOURS. that SAME hypnotic beat, that very strong very percussive rhythm..

to me

go-go has always been

is

& always will be

CHUCK BROWN.

I will now go & wear out my Chuck Brown music

for the rest of this week.

THANK YOU CHUCK BROWN

FOR THE AWSOME GIFT OF YOUR MUSIC.

WIND ME UP CHUCK..

I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Jesus, pneumonia is a killer!

Chuck Brown, pioneer of 'go-go' funk music, dies

(AP) – 6 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chuck Brown, who styled a unique brand of funk music as a singer, guitarist and songwriter known as the "godfather of go-go," has died after suffering from pneumonia. He was 75.

Brown died Wednesday at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore. Hospital spokesman Gary Stephenson confirmed he had died after a hospital stay that began April 18.

Thanks to Brown, go-go music was uniquely identified with Washington.

For his funeral, they should celebrate by doing go-go from the church all the way down to the neighborhood. His life was a party, hope his going-away party is similar.

Chuck is from where I live. The first time I saw him perform I was 17 and was completely blown away by how much energy he had at his age. He brought the house down I mean he had teenagers and 20 year olds on their feet!! WIND ME UP CHUCK IS THE CUT.... I LOVE HIM SO MUCH sad

He was the founder of Go Go but he had alot of other things that he experimented with like Caribbean, funk and salsa music....

Rest In Peace Godfather of Go-Go Chuck Brown

Growing up in Dallas, Go-Go music was culture here in the early 80's.. Believe it or not Redskin fans lol

But seriously, I grew up listening to Chuck Brown, Rare Essence, Experience Unlimited aka E.U., Trouble Funk and many of their aliases: Arkade Funk, Tilt, Slim, Hot, Cold Sweat.

We lost Robert 'Syke Dyke' Reed in '08.

Wow! this is very sad news... I remember my first trip to DC. I had the pleasure of going 2 a dance in a warehouse and Chuck Brown was performing. I had never heard of him, I was totally amazed at his incredible go go music. I didn’t even know what go go music was. He had everyone on the dance floor. RIP Mr. Brown. Sorry for the fans who have lost a giant in music. Let his music live on 4ever. May God bless his Family, Love Ones and Friends from around the world.

RIP tombstone rose

My cousin moved to DC in the 80's and called me all outta breath "You gotta hear this GO GO!!" He made me a few tapes and that ish helped me set a personal ground speed record from Cocoa Beach to Jamaica Queens. Those beats were relentless. One of the best live shows. Loved the way he segued. My first few shows, I was waaaaay behind what was going on, but the die hards help me find my way. RIP Chuck. Thank you for the sounds, my man.

Did he ever break through with any songs that would be known by the general public, or at least a wider audience?
