Well for the sound he created he was perfect, soory Black smile

I don't listen to Nirvana but i wanna be objective.

But if he was supposed to play something from Hendrix ,Santana or other famous players then i agree with BlaqueKnight

It's similar case with Edge ,many would say he sucks but he is perfect for U2 althought much better then Kurt on guitar

Kurt was not below average by any means imo. But he was not great & was very sloppy... but that is what made nirvana well... Nirvana!

The term grunge itself, the guitars where grungy sounded & a dirty & raw. Let me say that i play many instruments & i am NOT a great guitar player in any way. But after like a year or 2 i could easily play the mjaority of Nirvanas rifts & solos.

Kris also wasn't a great bass player, he was messy as hell sometimes lol I think Dave is the only hugley trained musician at the time for the band. But that raw sound made Nirvana & i think it's better Kurt wasn;t a flashy soloist wink

Just my 2 cents

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

That! is perfect smile

I think The Edge's guitar sounds on songs like bullet in the blue sky are chilling, there not Hendrix or Zappa type playing. But it;s damn good for what it is smile

Blaque is a bit objective, and the difference between Blaque and most everybody else on here is Blaque was on the scene and had seen Kurt play many times before he was a national sensatiion.

Dude was not a good guitarist. He was barely proficient.

That is not what he was known for. He was not known for his playing he was known for his sound, which was unique and did define him. He had a voice on his instrument and he had a sound that spoke to a generation.

I would never knock that. I just don't have a rose-colored glasses view of who he was because I saw Nirvana all of the time before they were famous and I understand how they blew up. It was not because they were great musicians. Dave Grohl was good but that's about it. They had a sound that was the opposite of what was going on and it caught on.

I don't pretend people are better than they are for the sake of being politically correct, nor would I knock someone who is skillfull but unpopular.
