Lionel could be #1 again next week

HITS:

It's another close battle for #1 as Jason Mraz and Lionel Richie duke it out for the top spot. With a few days left, we're giving a slight nod to Richie, but anything can happen between now and Monday morning. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:

Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 100-110k
*Jason Mraz (Atlantic) 100-110k
Adele (XL/Columbia) 85-90k
*Train (Columbia) 70-75k
Nicki Minaj (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 50-55k
One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 50-55k
*Future (Epic) 35-40k
Gotye (Fairfax/Universal Republic) 30-35k
Bonnie Raitt (Redwing) 28-32k
Rascal Flatts (Big Machine) 27-30k
Monica (RCA) 24-27k
Alabama Shakes (ATO) 22-25k
Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 21-24k
*Jack Johnson (Brushfire/Universal Republic) 21-24k
The Hunger Games (Universal Republic) 18-21k
*Neon Trees (Mercury/IDJ) 17-20k

So it looks like platinum is out of reach for Madonna?

I want her to top Streisand for overall sales in the U.S. but from the way things are going it might take longer then I originally thought.

The last few albums for madonna with hit singles only managed just past gold. This is with no hits and sales r falling off sharply

Confessions went platinum. It was only Hard Candy (and now MDNA) that went gold.

All that she did for that number 1 spot. Her album made an all time record on Billboard plummeting down the charts. Even she said recently how hard it is to get a number 1 nowadays. It wasn't a real number 1 anyway, if it didn't count her album included concert ticket scheme, that she stole from Prince. Lionel's success shows that peeps really miss real music....

For next week: Jack White 120k and The Wanted 47k.

these r projections from industry insiders but these can be really off sometimes i would wait for hits projections to have a better idea

well somewhat true and not knocking Lionel's marketing at all, because its actually a pretty good album, best thing he's done in almost 30 years, BUT these are old songs, rehashes of the same stuff thats been out there already just now hes latched on with big selling country artists and that teamed up with the "known hits" make this album sell. Its kind of like Santana's "supernatural" but with NO NEW SONGS, now if Lionel just made a new country record with 12 new country songs then i think we could say ...damn Lionel you are back

I like what Lionel did. It was a brilliant idea including selling it on air. It didn't feel like he was copying someone else it was innovative. I was thinking it would be a good thing for Prince to try. But I hate hearing others redo his songs. Its horrifying thinking about it.

Your idea of a new country record would be great for Lionel. His music & voice has that kind of sound. It was also good running into him in Beverly Hills a few years ago...He looks great..But shorter than i thought he was..

Over 9 million sold and she probably hasn't left the house in weeks. Unbothered.

She's #1 on the WORLDWIDE chart for a 39th week and 18 Billboard Award nominations. biggrin
