A shame when two artists who blurred color lines can have some folks acting racist. I've seen fans of both saying some racist shit about the other. That shit's stupid.

I can see why people are upset though when someone doesn't get credit simply cause of their race, but when there is name calling and trashing the other artists fan's and slurs being thrown around, it's really inappropriate.

It all reminds me of why an album like Rhythm Nation is so timeless, and applies to things going on in the world now just as much as it did, or even more so, than when it was released over 20 years ago. The things she tackled on that album--racism, homelessness, homicide, drug abuse, endangered youth--it's all still prevalent in our society today. Indeed, she is highly underrated.

I don't really think she's underatted at all, The Rhythm Nation era won critical acclaim with her generation and her career overall has been honored with many accolades and she became a Pop Icon. sure she might not be this dominant popular figure for this generation but not alot of older artists are. But I do think this generation should respect the older artist who paved their for their favorite artist today instead of calling them a flop or has been, I mean in the the next 25 years I'm pretty sure there's going to be some of the next generation is going to think the same thing about their favorites today. but hey no one stay dominant on the music scene forever

Exactly, then when she is put on a list they'll put her all the way at number 88 and then put madonna at number 10 or something, This is what Mjcarasoul meant. Whether people want to admit it or not, the same people Madonna influenced Janet has influenced as well. NOW we can get back on subject.
