Cool news about Andre....good for him...but did Queen Janie and the estate approve this? Or will this be a repeat of the 2000 Showtime flick with no Jimi music in it?

I have a feeling that they (Queen Janie) finally came around and agreed to this.It sounds like it's gonna be a 'real' biopic this time, with music and all.

It sounds like since their only gonna chronicle his begginings/pre fame years and not his actual stardom years, I thinking none of his music will be used and this is the loop hole they used to make a movie about him.

Jimi Hendrix Biopic May Not Be Happening, Says Janie Hendrix

Just a few days ago, it was reported that a Jimi Hendrix biopic titled All Is By My Side, starring hip-hop artist Andre 3000 of OutKast, was scheduled to begin shooting in Ireland this month.

Last year, when the film was first announced, Experience Hendrix, the company that controls Jimi Hendrix’s music and publishing catalog, put out a press release saying that they have “…made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without (Experience Hendrix’s) full participation.”

With the recent reports that the film is about to begin production, it seemed that Experience Hendrix was on board with the project. Not so.

Yesterday, Experience Hendrix put out a press release saying the following:

“Various media outlets have recently published accounts that indicate a feature length Jimi Hendrix biographical film is nearing production. Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.”

Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix (sister of Jimi), and the EH board said in the statement that they “have not ruled out a ‘biopic’ in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions.”

In other words, the film could not use any Jimi Hendrix recordings or songs written by Jimi without Experience Hendrix being on board.

For now, that seems to be the final word on the project.

Andre 3000 As Jimi Hendrix: Foxey

May 29th, 2012 // Leave a Comment

Andre 3000 Jimi Hendrix 2012

The Jimi Hendrix biopic titled All Is By My Side may not include the original recordings of the guitar-slinging icon, but it looks like it will feature Andre 3000 at his psychedelic best. The first photos of Andre on the Irish set of the film surfaced over the weekend, and they appear to show the OutKast rapper determined to meet the promise of the role. And why shouldn’t he be? Three Stacks has pursued the role of Hendrix for at least eight years. Still unclear, is whether the Hendrix estate will ultimately allow the use of the legend’s original music.

Back in 2004, in discussing the project with the New York Daily News, he said he wanted to capture Hendrix’s duality: “Jimi was wild onstage,” Andre said. “Offstage, he was really calm.” The rap star, whose real name is Andre Benjamin, certainly looks serene in the early photos (except, ahem, when he realizes he’s being photographed). More pics below.

The fact that production has begun in earnest is a sign that the project isn’t being held up by objections from Hendrix’s estate. If it does make it all the way to the silver screen, it wouldn’t be the first time a film depicting the superstar had to make do without authorized, original music. Showtime’s made-for-TV biopic Hendrix, released in 2000, used covers of several songs (though it was poorly received).

Early reports say the film, directed by John Ridley, traces Hendrix’s life in England in 1966-67, when he recorded his classic debut album, Are You Experienced?. Set to star alongside Andre 3000 are Hayley Atwell (who appeared in Captain America: First Avenger) and Imogen Poots (Fright Night).

All that’s clear from the photos, really, is that Andre seems fully immersed, right down to his flared red pants.

Picture of Jimi's half swedish son, James Hendrix, this photo is from the 90's I think. Today he's a transvesty and a happy married gay man so he doesnt look like this no more, he HATES getting questions about him playing the guitar and doesn't really have an attachment to his father more than looking like him.

The resemblance is definately there! Never knew Hendrix had a son...
