Tamia Happy to Get Back to Music

This June, Tamia will deliver her new disc Beautiful Surprise. It's the singer's first studio album in six years, and she's feeling good about the feedback that the title track is getting. "It's awesome!" Tamia tells the Huffington Post of her lead single. "Today I just found out that it was the number one most-added at Urban A/C, so I'm excited. It feels good to sort of get back to music."

Explaining the title Beautiful Surprise, Tamia says, "There've been so many beautiful surprises in my life. And certainly I always want to look at the positive things in life, and I think that's important for your mental health and your physical health to obviously keep things positive." The singer who battles multiple sclerosis, says that she's learned a lot about taking care of her body from her husband and Phoenix Suns player Grant Hill.

The pair tied the knot back in 1999, and they have two daughters. When Tamia's video for "Beautiful Surprise" comes out, fans will see the lovebirds together on-screen. "Yeah, after 15 years. He's like, 'I finally made it in the video!' Now, he'll tell you that I choose him because he was cheap!" Tamia says laughing. "But we had a lot of fun. And it was interesting just seeing him in that mode. Obviously he's done lots of commercials and bouncing basketballs in sweatpants. But this was a totally different thing."

After more than a decade of married life, does Tamia have any advice to share? "I always say, 'What works in one marriage may not work in the next. So definitely keep your eyes focused on your own relationship,'" she says. "Obviously, I'm not the same person that I was at 24, and he's not the same person that he was. But we also together allowed each other to grow as well and stay connected at the same time. And I think that's important. And obviously, communication is super important."

Tamia says that, "At the end of the day we just love being with each other and being really good friends." She expects their video to be released in a few weeks.

Her new album Beautiful Surprise hits stores in June.
