Their stuff was da bomb....perfect for the mid-late 80s. They were like a more RnB/funk Miami Sound Machine, IMHO.

I always believed Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam were very underrated. Im from New York so their music was extremely popular in the streets and certainly in the clubs in the mid 80s. Though they had pop success they werent very mainstream IMHO. Perhaps if Lisa Lisa was a solo artist then she would've received the same type of 'Shine'. I remember when Jennifer Lopez first album came out 'On the 6th' and the media labeled her the first female latin crossover star. Im like did they forget about Lisa Lisa?

I enjoyed their music anyway and certainly deserve an Unsung episode.

OR Gloria Estafan? eek lol

Truthfully I thought Lisa Lisa and 'em did pretty OK in terms of crossover given the times, their racial makeup, and their rather RnB approach. For example, I was surprised to see them show up in "I Love the 80s" that VH1 did several years back. I was surprised they were considered "mainstream" enough.

Since Unsung has done Full Force, Lisa would be a nice addition.

I got to see her at Market Days last year and she was fantastic! Face In The Crowd is still my jam. And I Promise You.

"I Promise You" should have been a single.I love that relentless groove! I think it's very Prince-like.
