hello music lovers

within the past year or so i have ben trying to broaden my musical intrests.

to make a long story short, i am really wanting to get into jazz and the blues..

the only jazz album i own is miles davis greatest hits..

i stumbled upon a box series titled "perfect jazz" and "perfect blues"

all the reviews were pretty good, and they are resonably priced.. i thought this would be a good introductin into the genres, with albums by various artist..

if any of you know any info on these sets... or any other goods sets,

please let me know!

Bitches Brew, as well, but I actually would not recommend starting with that.

hell even now after being into the trane for 20 years its still fairly unlistenable!!

Hum, how about some Fusion?

IMO, Herbie Hancock IS the best way to be intoduced to jazz music, especially if you come from "pop" music (as popular music). You might need a "transition" sound, from pop to jazz (fusion). And to me, Herbie's music is perfect for that.

Especially the "Head Hunters" album. "Sextant" and "Thrust" are good choices too.

And how about some nice piano stuff?

Thelonious Monk (Monk's Dream, Criss Cross and It's Monk's Time) is quite easy to get into.

And for more classic stuff, obviously "Kind Of Blue" and "'Roound About Midnight" by Miles Davis.

Purists never take this one into account, but Gilbeto Gil & Stan Getz' "Getz/Gilberto" relies heavily on melodies, and it's a good introduction to Tropicalia Jazz, latin jazz

Another good way to get into jazz is to look into SONGWRITERS. Alot of tunes get passed around but the people who wrote the tunes then often now have compilations of their songs with various artists. THAT being said do not sleep on Dizzy Gillespie.
