As much as I like Adele, this has got to be the dumbest career move I've ever seen.

In this industry, you're only as good as the last single, album, or movie you made. If you don't pony up new stuff, you're yesterday's news.

The girl has only been on the scene in the last couple of years and she thinks she's ready to take a break?

And about that 6 Grammy win. Whitney Houston won 6 in her entire career! They're handing them out like Chiclets now to the point it means nothing more than you're getting approval from record company low-lives.

I like Adele I really do...but this is getting to be too much. At this age, she should be concentrating on her career and her health.

I know right. You have ppl like Beyonce getting 16 Grammy's, for what I do not know. And to find out that singers like Diana Ross got nothing. Award shows are CRAZY!!!!!!! But, I ain't even gonna lie, I do like me some Adele, lol....

There actually are not that many more awards given now than there used to be.

Of course now they have a few different categories like "rap" and "hard rock" and "alternative" but Adele didn't win those.

She won Album, Song, Record, and Pop categories, and they have always had those

Whitney has waay more awards than those 6 grammys. She's the most awarded female ever. I think stats like that are what really counts. Especially for someone like her who truly deserved everything she got because she worked her ass off.

B'Weave on the other hand benefits from a lackluster talent pool. Herself included.

The Grammys just ain't what they used to be. neutral

TROR

* shrugs *

I always said Adele was just a fad, and this move will cement it. If she's true to her word and takes five years off, she'll lose her media and audience. When she finally does come back, she'll be about as commercially relevant as Joan Osborne or Paula Cole are today.

23? I thought she was 30 plus.

I thought she was a little older as well at first.

Shes very mature for her age

I think its a good move shes deciding to take a break and enjoy her life.. Smart then when she comesback again it will be a big deal...

Well its good and bad, first its good that she is thinking more of herself than what people and labels want, thats huge. Bad because i have a feeling the label is not pleased, and they will milk everything they can with unreleased and re issues, live cd, and probably a best of too, it sounds funny to say that, but thats the thinking and we all know thats the thinking. But to me its good, not because i dislike her, i think she is a great talent, but, its a tough spot to be in, and being a singer and not a musician etc...its not like she can really jump around with her style, so i dont think it'll be 5 years maybe 2 or 3 at best, but she is already covering "Never tear us apart" by Inxs, Inxs members said this is already been licensed by them and has been recorded.

I agree with this, esp when people are so wowed that Gaga plays the piano.

I agree that Adele doesn't sing any better than she should, considering she is a pro, BUT she connected with people. That's more than simply having a decent voice. Somehow, the songs and the voice went together in a way that was a little bigger than the sum of the parts.

I don't even have her album, but if nothing else she is representing a singer "doing her job" as you say. And sadly, we need that! lol

Hopefully this is her choice and not some controlling jealous jerk. I've known women who put their man first and later regretted it because they could not easily get out of the situation.

Smart move. Avoiding over-saturation, unlike the many pop stars of today.

She doesn't seem like the type of pop artist that needs to stay in the spotlight to remain popular. Her style is Adult-Contemporary, she doesn't chase any trends. There's always an audience for "mature" pop music.

I think she's a smart girl, but I don't know if she'll get attention again or not when she makes a comeback. But it wouldn't hurt writing music for other people in between to have some extra income coming in. I didn't know crying is bad for your vocal cords if it's too much.

I don't believe it. I'll bet she announces a tour before end of this year to support even more '21'. She had a planned tour/dates sidetracked by surgery, so she WAS in mode. She DOES still have singles. She'll take a much deserved break, let the singles work it...then tour. In this industry - 5 years is a looooooong time - unless you've been out there for years.
