Pet Sounds

Originally named Run James, Run and intended to be a James Bond theme.

This is my favorite song from their landmark album

The Grammy tribute last night reminded me how much of love the Beach Boys. God Only Knows is easily another one of my favorites.

What are yours?

Still got a couple of their 45s on the Capitol label I bought when I was a kid.

Ended up playing the b-sides more.

...Don't Worry Baby & The Warmth of the Sun

Other BB tunes...

...Be True to Your School & In My Room

...When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) & God Only Knows

...Wouldn't It Be Nice & Heroes and Villains

...Darlin' & Sail on Sailor (Blondie Chaplin - vocal)

...Surf's Up & Busy Doin' Nothin'

...Til I Die

The eternal summer of California that The Beach Boys' music projected was always a fascination for this kid growing up in Brooklyn, NYC.

Music for adventurous listeners

Pet Sounds really caught me off guard. I was familiar with all their hits, and I had heard that this was one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Well, imagine my surprise that it was not actually a rock album at all, but a collection of odd mid-tempo songs and ballads.

It was something that took years to appreciate. Maybe it was my pre-disposition to the BB's as fluffy hit-makers. But I got it eventually
