Don Cornelius -- who famously created "Soul Train" was found dead in his Sherman Oaks, CA home this morning ... and law enforcement sources tell us it appears he committed suicide.
We're told cops discovered the body at around 4 AM PT. Law enforcement sources tell us ... Cornelius died from a gunshot wound to the head and officials believe the wound was self-inflicted.
We're told Cornelius was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"Soul Train" changed the landscape of television when it debuted in 1971 and ran until 2006.
Officials have notified Don's family.
Cornelius was 75.

I can't believe this...I listen to "Media-segments" on the radio just about every day and NOBODY reported this...I just found this out via-email...
If this is true it is a great Loss of Life. Don Cornelius is the "God Father of Black Music Artists"....The Black Community always looked to him like Royalty.....3-Generations of my family watched Soul Train...
So unreal...What happened? I can't even imagine what his wife, children and grandchildren are going through right now...

Wow Im shocked I didnt know he was in ill health. I just tuned into Wendy Williams show when she made the announcement.
Thank you for your contribution to r&b music and showcasing fashion dance and style. I will never forget growing up and tuning into Soul Train every saturday afternoon.

I thought of you when I saw this, because I know how much you were crazy about Soul Train. You and The Audience and another orger who used to post about the weekend Soul Train shows. What an Icon. I will always remember Don Cornelious looking slick in his turquoise leather jacket, shorts and boots. Don was the 'coolness'. Will surely be missed. Every 11am on Saturdays 'Soul Train' was the jam.
