Adele returns to the top spot on the hot 100, your favorite could never

Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" takes over atop the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, dethroning Rihanna's "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris, after 10 weeks and making history in the process.

As Adele's set "21" leads the Billboard 200 album chart for a 17th week, "Fire" is the third single to top the Hot 100 while "21" has sat atop the album tally. First single "Rolling in the Deep" began a seven-week Hot 100 reign the week of May 21, 2011, when "21" was in its sixth week in charge of the Billboard 200.

Follow-up "Someone Like You" crowned the Hot 100 the week of Sept. 17, 2011. In the song's fifth and final week at No. 1 (Nov. 5), "21" returned to the Billboard 200 apex for a 13th frame.

With "21" at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 four another four weeks as of this week, "Fire" (Adele's third career Hot 100 topper) makes the set the first by a single artist to have led the Billboard 200 concurrently with three Hot 100 No. 1s.

In case anyone's wondering, current sales are 6,147,317.

I still think it has a chance of hitting 10 million. You doubters are in for a surprise.

I see a BIG spike in sales after the Grammys for some reason. I doubt anyone's gonna take her down from the top spot yet until after March.

Hits Daily Double is already having Adele claim an 18th week at No. 1 with "21":

Her 18th Week at #1 Gives Her Longest Run Since Whitney Houston Soundtrack

January 25, 2012

So what else is new? For the 18th non-consecutive week, XL/Columbia Grammy darling Adele’s 21 will be the #1 album.
That’s based on one-day sales reports from those on and offline retailers who haven’t closed shop to set up Newt Gingrich campaign headquarters.

Adele’s chart-topping performance will send her past Billy Ray Cyrus’ Some Gave All, with 17, and turn her sights to the Bodyguard soundtrack, which logged a total of 20 weeks at #1, ending on May 29, 1993, the longest previous run.

I would just love it if she stole Katy's thunder by getting 5, or even 6 #1s.

Honestly? I've never even heard any of her stuff.

Not really in a rush to, either.

I like the dimple in her chin, though. *nods approvingly*

She has the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful album of the last year, why aren't you interested?

Why would you ever go in a thread just to say you have never listened to an artist?

The song rose on airplay, which explains why it took Rihanna down.

Someone was mentioning the other day how back in the day, you rarely had an album hold the top for awhile and YES the reason is lack of any form of competition, granted good record, talented woman, but lets get real, the reality will strike, i doubt you will see her selling 10 million records with future releases, to me im more into output than riding a record till you cant stand the person anymore. Again not slighting her, but i'll take someone putting out an album a year of good stuff than selling 10 million of one and then taking a break, even though the label wants a new record asap. the wanna milk this shit now while they can. As for Katy Perry cant even compare the genres of music, they are not even alike, Katy Perry is a ring tone artist, and Adele is not, Adele appeals to 25-45 year olds, Katy Perry does not, well maybe guys that wanna bang her.

lol This org seems to think I'm a total Rihanna stan. I tend to defend her based on how harsh this board is to her and I do love alot of her songs, but I'm not blind to the fact that she has flaws. Her last album sucked, in fact I don't think she has a completely solid album and I do love We Found Love but it is overplayed.

But thanks for being civil about it wave

@ld, actually I've heard some teens saying Adele rocks so I don't know if she only attracts those over 21. I enjoy her though and I'm almost 28 so...

By in large they dont, its the older crowd that is in her corner, thats why she is selling albums and thats why Norah Jones sold 10 million of her debut, no 17 year olds were bumping "Dont Know Why", so far the only teens i have heard into Adele like that, were Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez when asked who they love, ADELE has become the new answer, kind of like a decade ago when "coldplay" was everybodys answer when asked "who do you listen too" in interviews, even Coldplay got tired of hearing that nonsense

[Edited 1/25/12 16:44pm]

I'm always like that whenever a particular artist is hyped to death like that and shoved down the public's throat - it usually has the opposite effect and makes me not want to listen to them.

Plus I don't watch television or listen to the radio so it's not hard for me to avoid most current music either.

And frankly this is a music forum - there's no rules that you can only post in a topic if you're a fan of the artist.

You sound way too emotionally invested and personally wounded. lol

Adele, Gaga , Katy , Rihanna and Britney all have the same fans believe it or not and a lot of the fans like to put them against each other. Most of the fans are TEENS to mid 20’s . And most of these fans are now adding Lana to the equation.
