They've been with each other long before any one of them were famous. At least one didn't latch on to the other for fame reasons.

How come there are so many artists in the history of American pop culture who owe or owed huge amounts of money to the IRS? I mean, do they do that on purpose, or don´t they know how much money they made, or do they think they can get away with it? Or is the tax system very complicated? Because the stereotype is that the American tax system is pretty simple compared to Germany or England.

I mean, come on..Marvin Gaye, Prince, Robin Thicke....and don´t get me started with Wesley Snipes who is IN PRISON because of evading his taxes eek .

Why? And why do people end up in prison because of taxes but others seem to get away with much bigger offences?

I believe most end up in trouble with the IRS because they mistakenly put all of their trust in their accountants and not checking the books for themselves personally on a weekly or at least a monthly basis. I know they lead busy lives and all, but that's never an excuse for making sure your finances are handled in an accurate manner.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

nod

And with the amount of money Thicke pulls in (as a songwritter), this is probably one year's worth of taxes. Pennies, I say! Pennies. This doesn't come near the neglect levels of say a Wesley Snipes. (And even he was taken by a crooked accountant.)
